Reflection:
The planning stage is where the essential questions which will be the focus of my unit. In
our lecture with teacher Diane, the first thing she made us do was make a meaningful
questions which will serve as a central focus for the entire unit. I found having a
meaningful questions helped focus on what learning I wanted to happen in the unit.
Furthermore, when planning my unit I learned that reflection happens at all stages of an
inquiry. I was constantly thinking how students learning can be enriched so that students
will be able to transfer their learning and skills from the inquiry process to other areas of
school and their lives. I wanted students to think about their thinking and how their
actions affect others in positive and negative way.
Through the planning process of inquiry I have learned, you have to be able to help the
students retrieve information. I included a brainstorm and KWL chart to access their prior
knowledge, Venn diagram to organize and role play. In this inquiry I want them to
recognize that information that they were learning was relevant to their lives. By
including the telephone game it gave them a chance to reflect and connect to other
situation. Furthermore, through activities as role play and thinking of questions to ask the
guest speaker allowed the students to demonstrate their leaning of the unit.
I like inquiry base learning because it allows the students to be a part of the process of
planning the unit. However, as teacher Diane had said it still has to be in line with the
PLOs and the curriculum. As a teacher its important to know your class and their
learning ability and then inquiry can be geared in such a way that their learning interests
and curriculum needs are all met. In the end an inquiry the students should able to answer
what did they learn about their topic, what did they learn from the inquiry process, why is
inquiry important, what did they learn that they can use in other situations.
