Importing CAD Data into MX

Before you start importing, you should consider if you really need to import the drawing.
MX supports the use of reference drawings, so instead of importing the drawing it might be
sufficient to simply reference the drawing.

Importing CAD data into MX is a three step process:

1. Reference the drawing
2. Merge the referenced drawing into the master drawing
3. Convert the CAD data

1) Reference the drawing:

Select References from the Primary Tools toolbar and then click on Attach Reference:

If the unit settings are fine you can usually use the Attachment Method Coincident World:

If the unit settings are not fine you might have move, scale and/or rotate the reference, see the
icons at the top of the References dialog:

2) Merge the referenced drawing into the master drawing

Right click on the referenced drawing and select Merge Into Master. You must then select the view
for merging, in other words you must do a left mouse button click in the graphics (this assumes that
you use the standard MX settings where view 1 is active and maximized).
Merge Into Master will copy the CAD entities from your original drawing into your current master
drawing and detach the reference drawing. So you still have your original drawing in case something
goes wrong.

3) Convert the CAD data

Convert the CAD data using the standard MX conversion functions, either the MX Conversion
Toolbar or the CAD Import Wizard.
If the MX Conversion toolbar is not visible, you can activate it from the MX menu View > Toolbars >
MX Conversion.
You can start the CAD Import Wizard either from the MX Conversion toolbar or from the MX menu
File > Import > CAD Data....
