Homework:
Homework will alternate between the Language Arts DOL worksheet and Reading
Comprehension Passages, which will be given to the students on Monday. Homework will
be due every Thursday. If a student is absent, they will have the following day to turn the
homework in. Homework is to be turned in to the correct class tray located underneath
the bulletin boards in my classroom. If a student fails to turn in their homework on
Thursday, it will result in 10 points deduction every day that it is not turned into me.
Missed/Make-up Work:

If you are absent for class or miss class for any reason, there is a missed work hanging
file box near my desk. It is bright orangeyou CANNOT miss it! This will have homework
sheets for each week or class work assignments that you missed on the day(s) you were
absent. You will need to pick them up and complete them for credit and completion of
the assignment. If you are absent one day, you will have exactly three days to complete
the assignment provided for you in the missing work files.
Writing Portfolios
Every student in this Language Arts class will have a writing portfolio. We will keep all large
writing assignments, research projects, and summative projects stored in these writing portfolios.
This is so every student will have a record of the materials they completed in their 8 th grade year.
They will receive these at the end of the year as a final writing assignment will be used with
these. If for any reason you wish to see your childs work or want to check on their progress
through their writing, you may ask for these portfolios to review, but I will need these back as
they are graded upon completion.
