Entry Plan

Goals:
1. Create a positive working relationship with staff, parents, and community
members.
2. Establish a positive and safe environment for staff, students, and families.
3. Be visible and available for staff, students, and parents.
First Three Months (July - September)
Meet with school administrative team members to introduce myself and to discuss
roles and expectations of all involved
Meet with secretary and other office staff
Review the goals, vision, and mission of the school (How does it differ from my
vision and mission?)
Examine the past culture and community of the school through conversations with
school staff (office, custodial, teachers)
Become familiar with the facilities and layout of the school
Meet with Business Manager to review budget and processes that affect the budget
Review the School Improvement Plan and district/school assessment scores
Review the schools demographics (students and teachers)
Review district curriculum for grade levels
Become familiar with district personnel
Review collective bargaining agreement
Review the Districts Strategic Plan
Create schedules
o Classes
o Lunch duties
o Bus duties
o Paraprofessional staff
o Teacher duties
o AM/ PM duties
o Master
Prepare class lists
Update website
Plan for first faculty meeting
Create a plan for arrival, dismissal, and emergency evacuations
Become familiar with different emergency drills (fire, lockdowns, natural disaster,
etc.)
Become familiar with the process for conducting emergency drills
Meet with crisis team to review/update crisis plan
Review/revise staff and student handbooks
Create staff compliment list (name, title, room, extension)

Create/distribute emergency cards for staff


Meet with Technology staff
Create a letter of introducing myself to the staff (send via email before the start of
school)
Invite staff in to meet with them personally
Establish a School Year Events Calendar
Send weekly emails to staff about updates and events
Hold a first week assembly to set rules and expectations for students

First six months (September - October)


Create a letter to the parents from the principal (English and Spanish)
Plan for Open-House/ Back to School Night
Plan an assembly to introduce myself to the students and to set expectations of the
school
o Incentives for positive behavior (Caught You Being Good)
o Consequences for misbehavior
o Monthly assemblies celebrating good choices (student of the month) and
attendance
Email staff for a great opening day
Celebrate a great start to the year with memos to the staff
Be visible in the school classrooms, lunches, and walk the hallways
Meet with community members to introduce myself and make connections to the
school
Create a staff emergency call list to inform of cancellations or delays
Implement a School-Wide Behavior Plan
Make sure school rules are visibly posted throughout the school
Visit classrooms
Meet with the PTA/PTO executive members; if there isnt a PTA/PTO established,
meet with interested parents and teachers to discuss forming one
Evaluate the operation of the building (what changes need to be made in order to
run smoothly?)
Survey the staff to evaluate the effectiveness of my leadership
Reflect on the survey results on my leadership in the first few months and adjust if
needed
Observe teachers by conducting walkthroughs
Attend Grade Level Meetings to set expectations for instruction
Establish as School Leadership Team and meet with them monthly
First Six Months (October December)

Continue to visit classrooms to conduct observations plan for pre-observations to


determine the focus for the observation. Make sure there is time for postobservation feedback

Attend Grade Level Meetings to track progress in each level, discuss possible
concerns of staff or students, and provide support
Continue with monthly staff meetings
Continue to plan with PTO/PTA to discuss concerns of the school and plan
fundraisers and other school activities
Continue to be visible in the school greet students as they arrive, be present in
the halls, each lunch with students
Announce successes over the loud speaker (students and staff)
Plan Literacy/Game/Math Nights
Hold Meet/Discuss meetings with Union Representative(s) to discuss building
issues
Update website with upcoming news or past celebrations (may need to delegate
this task)
Evaluate/Analyze tests scores with teachers and discuss ways to improve students
achievement
Plan professional developments survey the staff to determine the need of
different PDs
Create a physically safe environment for staff and students (establish a plan to
make sure all doors leading to the outside remain closed and locked)
Let the staff and students know they are appreciated and valued

First Year (December End of Year)

Complete observations and evaluations - provide feedback through post-observation


meetings
Meet with teachers to discuss what worked well, what they think needs to change,
what would they like to see implemented
Meet with principal or assistant principal to discuss changes to staff for the following
year due to reorganization, budget, programs, etc.
Meet with principal or assistant to evaluate what building changes need to made for
smooth operation (schedules, procedures, discipline - using various methods of data
collection to analyze trends in the building)
Continue to reach out to the community and parents for continued support by hosting
monthly activities Snacks with my Sweetheart, Literacy Nights, etc.)
Hold a luncheon for the staff to show my appreciation
Actively participate in as LEA in IEP meetings
Evaluate the culture/community of the school how can it be improved (survey
students and staff)
Conduct assemblies to motivate students on standardized testing (ease anxiety and
build morale)
Create a monthly Kudos and Congratulations newsletter for staff

Host Family Information Workshops to apprise them about curriculum, Internet safety,
student learning styles, and provide strategies for learning
Research grants to find necessary improvements based on data trends
Attend monthly principal meetings
Review performance data identifying trends for proficiency and growth (total
school, subgroups, grade levels, individual students)
Conduct walkthroughs in classrooms and provide feedback
Attend Grade Level meetings

Second year

Host Chat and Chews meeting to discuss concerns with parents and school
administrators
Continue walkthroughs and observations
Survey the staff (How was the first year? What improvements should be considered?)
Review budget
Inventory materials/resources for the start of the year
Analyze test scores
o What were the strengths/weaknesses?
o What strategies worked?
o What improvements can be made?
Facilitate data meetings
Continue to support staff in areas of need
Design Professional Developments based on needs of the students and staff
Establish Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
Analyze/evaluate the fundraising projects, adjust if necessary
Build capacity of school leadership using a tool such as the Myers-Briggs Personality
Test
Analyze the building facilities i.e. maintenance needed, location of classroom in
conjunction with the Facilities/ Custodial staff)
Evaluate/ adjust school wide procedures
Evaluate/ adjust school-wide activities/incentives for Positive Behavior
Engage staff members in action research to identify the elements of high performing
schools, with like demographics that are continually successful over time
Review School Improvement Plan and make changes as needed
Review Evacuation/Emergency procedures
Continue with weekly emails to staff
Conduct weekly phone calls to parents about upcoming events via ConnectEd
Continue with Family Information/Literacy Nights
Meet with community members to determine ways they can become more involved
with the students and school
Continue to maintain visibility in the school

Actively participate as LEA for IEP meetings

Review and reassign School Leadership Team members if necessary
Analyze behavior trends using School Wide Information System (SWIS) data to
modify schedules and duty rosters

Seek professional opportunities (workshops, training, or research) based on areas of
need identified my first year
