side conversations must cease. If you have something to contribute or ask in
class, please raise your hand.
4. During lessons, you are to be in your seat, remain silent, and take notes.
5. Cheating and/or copying answers off another student are absolutely prohibited and
will result in immediate referral to administration.
6. When I allow you to work with peers, a very low volume (whisper, quiet
communication) is expected.

class.
8. Bullying, name-calling, insults, and profanity are absolutely prohibited.

passing period. You have only six pass outs per semester.
12.
Eating and drinking food, snacks, candy, gum or beverages of any kind are
not permitted in the classroom.
13.

permission to use supplies in my room as long as they are signed out and returned
in the proper location.

14.
Neglect, abuse, or destruction of any of my classroom materials results in
immediate disciplinary action.
15.
You cannot go to another teachers class or leave class early without a pass
from that teacher or parent.
16.
You are permitted to work only on my class materials during class time; no
other class work is allowed.

anything on my desk for any reason without permission. Students are also
prohibited from using my computer, laptop, or Smart Board. The Smart Board may
be used only with my permission.
18.
Follow directions the first time they are given and always stay on task. There
will be consequences for using class time to misbehave, gossip, or not work. You
are to be busy every minute of class.
My classroom expectations for every student in my classroom are outlined as follows:
1. Be here every day and be here on time. More than two tardies will result in an
after school detention.
2. When the bell rings, you are to be silent and have out your notebooks,
journals, and writing utensil.
3. At the beginning of class, you are to be working on an assignment or a daily
math journal entry.
4. You must have homework assignments completed on designated due
dates. Academic referrals will be assigned for missing work (this will include
assignments not picked up after an absence).
5. You will work on assignments whenever I designate classroom work time.
6. You may work collaboratively on assignments (when allowed) in my class but in a
very quiet manner.
7. You must keep and maintain an organized binder according to the prescribed
folder outline.
8. You will take complete and accurate notes, including the HDN, during every class
session.
9. I expect all students to participate in class discussions (at least twice)
throughout the week.
*Failure to comply with my rules and expectations or disturbing the peace in
my classroom will result in the following penalties*:
1st Offense: Verbal warning and student-teacher discussion
2nd Offense: Verbal warning, student-teacher discussion, and a phone call home.
3rd Offense:
Student referred to administration, after school detention, and a
phone call to parents.
4th Offense:

*Note: all other offenses and penalties outlined in the Salem High School Student

Student Attendance Concerns:
Attendance Policy:
Attendance is crucial to performing well in my classes. Attendance will be
taken every class day. To incentivize class attendance, participation and behavior grades
will be taken daily. This participation portion of the students grades will be included as a
homework grade. Note: you will not be penalized for excused absences.
Tardiness:
Students who come into class late must see me after class. If you are late, quietly
come into class and grab materials from the podium. You must hold onto their late
arrival slip from the office and present it to me at the end of class. The following
penalties are in place if tardiness becomes excessive (per nine week grading period):
1st and 2nd Late Arrivals:
Warning and loss of participation points
rd
th
3 and 4 Late Arrivals:
After School Detention and loss of participation
points
5th Late Arrival:
Student referred to administration and loss of participation
points
Absences:
I will recognize students absences if and only if they are excused (e.g. sick with a
note from the parent). You may make up the work you have missed without point
reductions if there is an excused absence. If there are three or more unexcused
absences, parent contact will be made. Whenever you are absent, I will expect the
student to take responsibility for the following:
I will have an absences binder with material the student missed. You must
obtain this before the next class period begins.
To make up participation points, students who miss need to see me immediately
the following day before school, after school, or during activity period to get notes
and help on assignments.
I will not use class time to catch you up or teach you lessons that you have missed.
I am available to catch you up and teach you lessons missed before or after school
and during AP.
Not adhering to these expectations will result in loss of credit for missed
assignments.

Activity Period (2nd Period Only):

Students in my activity period are to use this time in a productive manner. AP time
will not be used for social time or any inappropriate manner (horseplay, games, goofing
off, etc.). Every activity period is to be used as a short study hall. You are expected to
be quietly working during this time. Sleeping or keeping your head down is not
permitted. Mondays are specifically reserved for reading and literacy enrichment. No
one is permitted to leave the classroom during activity period on Mondays regardless of
the circumstance. You are not permitted to leave the classroom during AP unless you
have a pass from a teacher or a club meeting is announced. Leaving the classroom
without notice will result in disciplinary action. Students may use Fridays AP for free
time if and only if all students have successfully adhered to these rules throughout the
week. Students are still expected to keep discussions at a low volume.
