Focus on relevant areas from the What Can Be Observed handout. Notice how the
teacher handles these areas during the class.
OBJECTIVE OF THE LESSON:
1. Ss will be able to apply "should & shouldn't "form in sentences.
2. Ss will be able to create their own sentences by advising visitor to visit their home city.
Notes while observing:
Warm up:
1. T guides Ss to review yesterday knowledge.
2. T checks Ss homework and explain right away.
Presentation:
3. New grammar is presented on the board.
4. T uses Ss daily life to present grammar, and guides Ss to speak the form of grammar.
5. Textbook section. T explains by asking Ss questions.
Practice:
6. After T's presentation, Ss do exercises by themselves. For practice.
7. T walks around to check Ss answer.
8. Mechanical practice, T asks Ss answer one by one. Whole class exercise.
9. Group working, Ss talk to their neighbors to discuss their own ideas.

10. T checks Ss answer with whole class.
11. T mentioned newspaper on the wall to encourage Ss read more. Also this is
desuggestepdia.
Production:
12. Communicative practice, T asks Ss working with peers. ( gives advise to visitor, when
they visit your city. Ss have to use "should / shouldn't + base form" )
13. T asks Ss to give their answer one by one. One positive one negative. Ss have to
composite their answer.
14. Ss produce their answer to whole class.

What did you learn about teaching or learning from this lesson? Discuss your
observation focus, and the theory you have studied in your TESOL classes. Consider
the three levels of teacher reflection (surface, pedagogical, critical). (100-200 words)
T gives review first, I do really like this method. I will use it in my future class. T is very
organized, and teaching process is sequence and clear. T told me when grammar teaching,
here is no exactly boundary for mechanical practice and communicative practice, mixing
two drills is general way. Because I asked T which part is mechanical practice and which
part is communicative practice. Ss can clarify how to use modal in positive and negative
way.

What activities/techniques from this class do you want to remember for your own
teaching practice? Discuss specific ways in which you could apply the techniques and
methods you saw. Discuss your future teaching environment and your students needs
and goals.

Review last class knowledge, I definitely will use it in my future class. T combines two
drills, which is useful and effective. For Ss needs and goal, I will give them pre-task
before class, then according to Ss level, give them suitable lesson. In the warm up
section, T reviews last class knowledge, then directly go to presentation. He makes class
easy and understandable, not only for Ss also for observer. In the production section,
when he asks Ss question, he just wait for Ss answering without saying anything like a
hint, but he will ask"Any one can help?" to whole class, instead of giving answer directly.
This is very good approach, T shouldn't give answer to Ss, because if T gives answer
directly Ss will get used to do so. Gradually, Ss become lazy, and class become
ineffective.
