WELL LOGGING
SUMMARY
Overview
In most wells, the owner orders the well log. A well log can review the
amount of gas, oil and water in the formation.
Basic Logging Operation
The well owner usually calls a logging company; the well logging company
sends a tractor to the well. In offshore, the logging unit is on the rig and it
isnt a tractor. In either case the logging unit conducts a wireline into the
well to the deep to investigation. The unit then reels on the tool as the tool
come out the hole and it detects some aspects of the formation and sends
information to the conducting wireline to the surface.
On the surface, computers in the logging unit record the information of the
log. The well owner can examine the information from the well to determine
if oil, water or gas exists in the formation.
Logging Unit

The logging tractor contain the computers, the wireline and the controls that
make logging operations works. Offshore instead of the tractor the
equipment is a tall and small house a logging unit.
The Logging Unit Details
In the lab, they can record and display the information obtained of the well
in real-time. They can do because of the controls that they have and
because they can stop and rise the wireline tool.
Logging Tools
There are many different types and brands of logging tools but the most
important are electric, nuclear, sonic and other. And the well owner can
choose some of them.
Electric Log
The electric logging tools measure and records the electric properties of the
formation. This recorded information present a deflection and make a
different between the presences of salt water. A basic the salt water conduct
electricity of the oil formation that contain oil deflect the log different form
the salt.
Nuclear Log
A nuclear log sometimes is called the radioactive log because looks like to
the electricity log because of deflect to the right. Nuclear tools measure
natural or induced radiation to the formation. Natural radiation indicated the
type of rock and its density bombarding the formation with radiation source
from the logging tools. They indicate the quantity of liquid and gases there
is at the formation.

Sonic Log
A sonic log record the time of sound travels through the formation as sonic
logging tool create sound of the formation near the tool sound move faster
to salt rock then the rock fluid pores. The tools record the travel sound and
the experts determine if the salt rock has oil and/or gas.
Other Logs
Many other logging tools are available; a common one is a caliper tool. This
log shows the diameter of the well and any irregularity. It helps to calculate
the volume of the cement necessary to put the casing into the well.

En muchos pozos, el dueo del pozo ordena el registro del pozo. Un registro
de pozos puede detectar la presencia de gas, petrleo y aguas en la
formacin.
Operaciones Bsicas de los Registros
El dueo del pozo usualmente llama a una compaa de registros, esta enva
un tractor al pozo. En actividades de perforaciones de pozos en el mar, la
unidad de registros esta encima de la torre de perforacin en lugar de ser
un tractor. En cada una de estas actividades la unidad de registro maneja un
cable elctrico hacia el fondo del pozo para realizar investigacin. La unidad
posee rieles los cuales le permite realizar los registros a medida que este

sale del pozo y este detecta algunos aspectos de la formacin y enva la

informacin hacia la superficie.
En la superficie, las computadoras en la unidad de registro guardan la
informacin del registro. El dueo del pozo puede examinar la informacin
del pozo para determinar si petrleo, agua o gas est presente en la
formacin.
Unidad de Registro
El tractor de registros contiene computadoras, el cable y los controles
realizan los distintas operaciones. En offshore en lugar de un tractor el
equipo es una casa instalada encima del taladro de perforacin.
Detalles de la Unidad de Registro
En el laboratorio, los expertos pueden grabar y mostrar la informacin
obtenida del pozo en tiempo real. Ellos pueden realizar el control del cable
debido a que pueden parar y alzar esta herramienta como ellos quieran.
Herramientas de Registro
Hay distintos tipos y marcas de herramientas de registro pero las ms
importantes son las herramientas elctricas, nuclear, snica y otras.
Registro Elctrico
Las herramientas de registro elctrico miden y guardan las propiedades
elctricas de la formacin. Esta informacin grabada presenta una deflexin
y hace una diferencia entre la presencia de sal en la formacin. El agua
salada es un gran conductor de la electricidad y as se puede determinar la
presencia de petrleo o gas debido a la distinta deflexin de estos fluidos
con el agua.

Registro Nuclear
El registro nuclear a menudo es llamado registro radiactivo al igual que el
registro elctrico tambin se detecta fluidos por la deflexin que este tenga.
Este tipo de herramientas mide e induce la radiacin de la formacin. La
radiacin indica el tipo de roca y su densidad, esto indica la cantidad de gas
y lquido que hay en la formacin.
Registro Snico
El registro snico guarda el tiempo de viaje del sonido a travs de la
formacin mientras la herramienta crea tambin ruido cerca de la formacin
para percatarse que tan rpido el sonido se mueve a travs de los poros de
la roca. Todo esto para determinar si hay gas o petrleo en la roca almacn.
Otros Registros
Muchos otros registros estn disponibles, uno de estos es el registro caliper.
Este registro muestra el dimetro del pozo y cualquier irregularidad
presente en el mismo. Esto ayuda tambin a calcular el cemento necesario
para colocar el casing dentro del pozo.

CALIPER VIDEO
SUMMARY
EV has launched a time-video caliper tool which is able to do a diagnostic
and present the qualities and quantities about the well. It has a camera and
it provides the issues of the well in seconds.
Respect the caliper features, it is 20 feet with 3 millimeters, vertical
resolution, multi fingers caliper and once reporter software.

Deliver in real time the center of the well and 3D plotting. It displays an
overview of the condition of the well in real time.
The engineers see the issues and the potential damage into the well
because of the 3D model and its vertical section and present a solution. Its
a solution for the costumers and resolves many well problems.

VIDEO DE LA HERRAMIENTA CALIPER

RESUMEN
La empresa EV ha lanzado una herramienta denominada caliper que graba
en video en tiempo real. Esta es capaz de presentar un diagnstico y
presenta las cualidades y cantidades respecto al pozo. Esta herramienta
tiene una cmara y provee los daos del pozo en segundos.
Respecto a las caractersticas del caliper, esta es de 20 pies por 3
milmetros, posee resolucin vertical, mltiples sensores y un software que
reporta la informacin.
Estrega en tiempo real el centro del pozo y un grfico en 3D. Este muestra
una visin general de la condicin del pozo en tiempo real.
Los ingenieros ven los daos y el dao potencial dentro del pozo debido a la
visn 3D, todo esto para presentar una solucin de lo anteriormente
descrito.
