1.2. During Stage: The class will be

split into two group. Each group will
receive a passage from Farewell to
Manzanar with the prepositions
removed. Each group will work
together to fill in the correct
prepositions. After, the groups will
exchange papers and check for errors.
Transition to #2:_Now that
were thinking about the
novel and the important
characters, lets review the
characters and what
happened to them in the
first half of the book.

1.3 Post-Stage: Review any

discrepancies as a whole class.
Tangible Outcome & T. feedback/peer
feedback: peer/T feedback on correct
usage of prepositions

Activity 2: Post-It Game

Transition to #3:As we
think about the different
characters we also think
about what will happen to
them...

2.1 Pre-Stage: Brainstorm the list of

locations we read about in these
chapters. What characters were
associated with these places?
2.2. During Stage: Post-It Game!
Each student will receive a post-it
with a characters name. The post-it
will go on the students head, so they
dont see the character they have.
Students must ask questions to other
students to try and figure out what
character is on their post-it.
Rules: Questions can not be yes/no
questions. Questions must be using
information from the chapters we
read.
Example: What is most important to
my character?
After asking one question you must
find a new person to ask!

what might happen in the second half
of the novel.

paper with the beginnings of several
conditional statements. Students will
fill in these sentences and then create
their own while making predictions
about the remainder of the book.

Exit ticket (if we have time)

Materials: PowerPoint, handouts for each activity, markers ,post-its, the book
Anticipated Problems & Suggested Solutions:
Students will stuck at some questions in the revision activity, and teachers do not know
the exact answer either.
Leave it as a homework for the student.
Contingency Plans (what you will do if you finish early, etc.): We will talk about the midterm/talk about the book farewell to Manzanar.

Play the post-it game again, this time with locations- Manzanar, Los Angeles, Oregon,
Japan, Hawaii
Post-Lesson Reflections: The instruction for the post-it game is a little bit vague, maybe
we should rephrase it next time.
