ADJECTIVES.

FORM: Adjectives in English only have one form, and one


position which we use with singular and plural nouns.
- an old car - two old cars. an tall man - tall men
-a
white dog -6 white dogs a comfortable chair- a pretty
woman- two beautiful women
POSITION:
a) Before a noun: - a young man
-new shoes -a nice girl -

-an empty house

b) After the verbs: be, look, appear, seem, feel, taste, smell,
sound (and a few others) when we describe the subject of a
sentence.
- He is young - The house looks empty -These shoes are
new -She seems confident.
c) Some adjectives eg. asleep, alive, awake, afraid, ill, well
can come after a verb but not before a noun.
- He is asleep. They are awake -I am afraid.
-A sleeping man - Sick children. A frightened animal.
-Healthy people.
d) In expressions of measurement, the adjective normally
come after the measurement noun.
- She is 18 years old. He is 1.80 metres tall.

- ED and ING ADJECTIVES.


ED ADJECTIVES describe someones feelings.
I am interested in photography.
Everyone was excited.

We all feel relaxed.


All the audience was amused.
The students were interested
ING ADJECTIVES describe the thing or person that
produces those feelings.
I think that photography in interesting.
It was an exciting tennis match.
We are having a relaxing holiday.
There was a worrying atmosphere at the lounge of the
meeting room
