Intodesign Laboratory is a Kuching

based design office established in
2008. We design and build things,
primarily architecture. Our design
process involve series of research and
study for the creation of design
oriented
and
meaningful
architecture/ design. We are committed
to extend our ideas and local discourse
through research and teaching in local
architecture institution. Currently, we
are working on houses, commercial
development,
furnitures
and
scenography.

He also won several awards from
competition .One of the best award is
Project (ECO VALLEY) 2nd runner-up for

ADDRESS
This is a housing project. It is in one
Lot68 Semi Detached
design and multiple it to 10 buldings.
Housing Project,
The house contain 7rooms including
Kuching
2 master bed room. Each master
bedroom come with en-suit bathroom.
There's a private swimming pool for each
unit. It's 15 feets long , 10 feets width and
3 feets depth. Each unit has 2 parking pouch.
All the house are layout in a North-South orientation which provides
maximum protection from the sun. This Semi-D has been planned for
the discerning elites in Kuching.

WHY KOTAK BOAT ?

There's is a nice view of river at the back of

the building. There is a roof terrace on top
of this building. From the roof terrace we
can enjoy a 360 degree of views.

Mr Tay gives the name "kotak

bot" for this area mainly is to
commune the site with the
nature.He stated that he was
trying to change the industrial
area into residential area in
order to increase the standard
of living. The idea of the design
for this project came from the
Chinese Traditional Boat.
Therefore, they named it as
"kotak boat".

What is Mr. Tay's rol es and responsibil it ies in 'Kot ak Boat '
Project ?
His role in this project is Design Architect. He handle all the design works.
Throughout the project, he needs to gain some opinions and suggestions from
clients such as the number of room per house and the living space. Besides, he
has to make sure all his design concept match to the "Design Principle".

There will be a meeting between

client and the architect,(Mr. Tay)..He
will estimate the fee for the client
before starting the project. After
that, thy will discuss about in detail
requirements and aspirations. Then,
they will discuss about budget, time
frame and any other parameters, as
these will impact on the design. The
information his client provide for Mr.
Tay is called ?The Brief?. After that, he
will analyse the brief requirements
and present initial design proposals.

Next, Mr. Tay translated the brief into

a design, he will develop the initial
proposal into a more developed
design. At the developed design
stage, he need to finalize the layout
of spaces, the materials for
construction and incorporate the
work of any specialist consultants,
such as a structural engineer who will
advise on the structure.

Tendering for a contractor he will

prepare forms of tender for main
and specialist contractors. It is
advisable to have at least three
contractors submit costings
(tenders) for a project.
As each contractor will base their
costing on the same information,
tenders can be compared and
analysed and the best price found.
Mr. Tay and quantity surveyor will
also help the client to evaluate the
tenders received.

design, Mr. Tay will proceed into
detail drawing. He will produce full
construction drawings, including site
works and specification finishes.
During construction, he will act on behalf
of client as an independent advisor,
inspecting the building work at intervals
to ensure that it is being carried out
generally in accordance with the
contract documents. He will administer
the contract and advise the client on
stage payments during the projects. His
work continues until after the building
work.
