Hola amigos! Welcome to Spanish 1 offered by Seor Claybaugh.
Espaol is an amazing language and you or your child will be placed
on the road to learning it this year. This is a class that will require the

and becoming better citizens

it improves your native language (English)

and much more!

MATERIALS
Students are encouraged to purchase a Spanish-English dictionary for use in
and out of class. Dictionaries can be found for around $10. Students are
required to bring paper, pencils/pens for class each day. If additional
materials are needed for a certain activity I will inform them at least 2 class
periods before, though this will be rare.

GOOGLE VOICE
The majority of homework for this class will be done using Google Voice.
This is an online voice mailbox, which only I have access to. Students can
call from any phone and leave a message. Students must leave their name,
class period, and perform the task. They are allowed to leave more than one
assignment per message. I will be providing the Google Voice number in
class and on my website.

ACADEMIC GRADES
Students will be graded on completion and mastery of required material.

ATTENDANCE
Students are expected to abide by the Frontier Middle School attendance
policy. Students are expected to be on time to every class period. On time
means they are inside the classroom when the final bell rings. Students are
responsible for finding out what assignments they missed.
Please refer to your Frontier Middle School planner for the school Tardy
Policy.

BATHROOM/DRINKS
Due to the location of the Learning Cottages (trailors), students will not be
allowed to leave for drink breaks. Students are encouraged to visit the
bathroom facilities before or after class. Each semester the students are
given 2 bao slips that they can use if they have a real need to use the
bathroom during class. Students will be allowed to have small snacks or
drinks in class unless this privileged is abused.

CLASS RULES AND CONSEQUENCES

Here are the classroom rules:
1. Be Respectful
2. Be Honest
3. Be Prepared
4. Be engaged in learning
As a teacher I will follow by the same rules and do all that I can to provide an
environment where these rules can easily be followed. The classroom
environment will allow the students to feel safe and learn to the best of their
abilities.
Consequences for breaking any of the rules depend of the severity,
frequency, and/or reason for the misconduct. I reserve the right to interpret
and expand on these expectations as specific situations require. If a student
breaks a rule I plan to follow the following steps in hopes that we wont go
past the first step:
1. Students fixes it.
2. Teacher fixes it.
3. Parent fixes it.
4. Administration fixes it.

PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Spanish can be very demanding at times and students will need help outside of the
classroom to stay on top of this class. As such, I expect parents/guardians to help
students meet their expectations by helping them set aside time to complete their
assignments, cooperating, to the fullest amount possible, when an assignment asks
for family help, and being aware of their students attendance and grades. The more
help and practice students receive outside of the classroom, the more successful they
will be. Id like to thank you in advance for all the help you give your student in their
education.

CONCLUSION
I am excited to work as a team with both students and parents to make this the most
productive and successful semester we can. As we move forward I want you to
understand that I think learning should be fun but, in order to have fun, we all need to
make sure were following the classroom expectations.
Mr.Claybaugh reserves the right to change anything in this document.
Parents, please call or email me if you have any questions or concerns. Update your
email on skyward if youd like to receive email updates on important things going on in
class. Thanks!

Depending on the misconduct and if we get past the first two steps, I will
contact the parent via email or phone to inform them and/or make a plan to
resolve the misconduct.
Of course not only will there be negative consequences for breaking rules,
but there will be positive consequences for following them. Different rewards
can be given to students with exceptional behavior.
