Recallingtheincident,thesinglemothersaidshereceivedatelephonecallfromtheChinesevernacularschool
hersongoestointhecityataboutnoononOctober28.
Iwasaskedtocometotheschoolimmediatelyandfetchmysonashehadinjuredhishead.
Whenaskedhowserioustheinjurywas,theteacherreplied,Justasmallcut.Youcomeandtakehimhome
la,shesaid.
Thesinglemotherthenexplainedthataboutanhourlaterwhenshearrivedattheschoolsoffice,shefoundher
sonlyingdownwithadeepgashonhisforehead.
Hewaspaleandsurroundedbythreeorfourteacherswhoweremerelywatchinghim.Ifoundthathisschool
uniformhadbeenchanged.Therewerebloodstainsonhislegsandshoes.
Itwasthenthattheteacherstoldmethatmysonwasbeatenupbythreeofhisclassmates,shesaid,after
whichsherushedhersontoahospital.
Notwillingtolettheincidentgolightly,themotherwenttotheschoolthenextmorningtosortoutthematter.
Coincidentally,shechanceduponthesameteacherwhotoldherwhathadtranspiredwhenherchildwas
standingoutsidetheschoolgates.

Mychildwasseriouslyassaultedatschoolyesterday.Theauthoritieshavenotevenraisedafingertotakeany
action,eventheheadmasterfoundoutaboutthematteradayafter,shesaid.
Askedwhynoactionwastakenovertheassault,theteacherinformedherthattheincidenthappenedcloseto
theendofthemorningsessionandthattheydidnothaveenoughtimetoinvestigatethematterortakeany
action.
Thisisalieasmychildwasassaultedatabout11.30amtonoonandthemorningsessionendsat1.30pm.How
cantheysaythatnothingcouldhavebeendone?
Iftheysaidthattheywererushingthechildtohospitalmaybethatwouldhavebeenavalidremarkbutthey
onlystoodbyandwatchedmysonbleed.

Besidesreceivingblowstotheback,andbeingkickedonhischest,theboywasrepeatedlypunchedbythreeof
hisclassmatesintheface,causinghisfaceandchintoswell.Adeepgashonhisforeheadmeanwhilewas
causedbyawaterbottlethatwasusedtohithim.
Themothersaidthatherchildhadcomplainedofbeingbeatenupbyotherpupilsmanytimesbefore.
Hedidtelltheteacherofthepreviousincidentsbutwasonlytoldtositdowninhisplace.Whywasnoaction
taken?sheasked.
