JOB DESCRIPTION
1. JOB TITLE: Coordinator of Family Ministry Outreach
2. MISSION: To initiate and develop connections in the church and surrounding neighborhood.
To create and nurture relationships with Jesus Christ and one another. To help children, youth and
families grow in Christian discipleship.
3. WORK SCHEDULE: (1) Sunday: worship participation and life group leadership and
management.
(2) Weekdays: contacts with local schools, neighborhood organizations;
on-campus leadership or management of events connecting faith and life.
(3) At least one regularly scheduled weekday off.
4. HOURS PER WEEK: 30 hours
5. DUTIES:
(1) Serve as church liaison with neighborhood association and other community groups.
(2) Maintain connections and presence in neighborhood public schools, including elementary,
middle and high school. Encourage church participation in these schools.
(3) Serve on Berkeley Childcare Center Board; in conjunction with director, maintain contact
with families served by Center.
(4) Develop and train leaders for family-focused events and age-level programs; plan and
calendar events and programs in cooperation with pastor.
(5) Relate children, youth and families to community service opportunities.
6. JOB RELATIONS: Employed by the Staff-Parish Relations Committee. Supervised by pastor.
7. QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) Baptized Christian, faith commitment compatible with the United Methodist Church and its
mission to make new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
(2) Understanding of Christian education and faith formation for all ages.
(3) Personal maturity; strong interest in the lives of children, youth and families and a desire to
see them grow as Christian disciples.
(4) Good communication skills in interpersonal contacts, writing and social media.
(5) College degree preferred but not required. Professional development in Christian education
and faith formation available and encouraged.
(6) Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish preferred but not required.
