Course Description:
This course helps students to determine the goals and resources they need in order to be successful in
their lives. It focuses on using practical problems solving to set goals regarding life choices in the
areas of career, personal and family relationships, wellness, and use of resources. The students are
given the opportunity to explore career interests and what they need to do in order to be financially
independent.
Instructional Philosophy:
Students are expected to participate in classroom instruction through discussion, scenarios, cooperative
learning, role-play, etc. Academic standards will be supported through the use of these instructional
techniques. Participation in FCCLA and in the community is strongly encouraged. FCCLA is an
integral part of the Family and Consumer Sciences program.
Student Learning Goals:
The goal of the course is for students to incorporate the use of practical problem solving into
relationship decisions.
The student assignments reinforce the importance of good writing skills and process skills.
The student will learn to examine problems using critical questions that will lead to reasoned,
thought out action.
The student will learn the importance of balancing relationships including family and career which
will enhance employability skills needed in the workplace and homes of the future.
