CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION OF THE TITLE

Speak n’ Smile is an educational assistance center that teaches online English as a second
language (ESL) to the students. The problem is they promote only their company through their
banners and communication to the people. It’s hard for them to do it because it takes a lot of time
to their work instead they can use their time to teach their students. To solve their problems, we
proposed a website for their company. We explained to them the benefits of it to their company
and to their (future) students.

We created a Website that will help the company to solve their problem. It will also help to their
students to easily access their site if ever they will need some information regarding to the
company. The site has some information about their company and how the students can access
them.

It is also a great help to the proponents to improve their capability to plan, design and formulate
the site.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Speak n’ Smile Educational Assistance Center was established on August 9, 2006.


Located at 4th floor Veluz Blg. Aguinaldo Hi-way Dasmarinas City, Cavite. Speak n’ Smile was
derived from English word Speak means you talk and confidently Smile when you able to speak
English.

Speak n’ Smile Educational Assistance Center that teaches Basic English especially
establish to Koreans who really want to learn English. Before it was established Mr. Bong Shin
(the owner of speak n’ Smile) and Mr. Richard Aguilar (the Manager) was a good friend since
college and back then even if Mr. Shin went back to Korea they still managed to communicate
with each other and they decided to build an online center in the Korea and operated here in the
Philippines. He believes that Filipino is more proficient in speaking in English and more
grammatically correct in their words.

The Speak n’ Smile are still new in the market that is why they put effort and
determination to expand, and develop the business.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

• GENERAL PROBLEM

- Unable to access the company to other country

Speak n’ Smile Educational Assistance Center doesn’t have a website that can inform the people
from other country and to know that they have an online tutorial company.

• SPECIFIC PROBLEM

- Lack of Promotion

They only introduce their company through their banners and through their friends. It is known
only here in Dasmariñas, Cavite. They cannot promote it in other country.

- Few Features

Speak n’ Smile Educational Assistance Center doesn’t have enough features to inform their
students about their company.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

• GENERAL OBJECTIVE

Speak n’ Smile site provide promotion and investment to the center to encourage to viewer or
students to try on their operation. We designed approximate site that provide information about
the operation of the center.

• SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

- Well-provided Promotion

In our site, we obtained provide our client efficient details and sustain high quality website.

- Faster Services

In our site, we provide information about the Speak n’ Smile Educational Assistance Center to
help them link in the company.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The importance of this proposed website is to be able to help the transaction of the speak n’
smile company and gives more benefits through our proposed website.

The proposed website is to presents information that should help the business. Our proposed
website contains complete detailed about the company.

• To the Speak n’ Smile

This study will help to improve the business of the said company. This proposed website will
provide promotion through online so that it can encourage the viewer or client to try on their
operation and gives well provided information about the company.

• To the Proponents

With the help of this study proponents may increased their ability and expertness in
structuring and designing a website that fits to the need of the company.

This study may serve as one of their training and practice of applying what they have learned
in the said field chosen.

• To the Students

This study will help the student to have widened knowledge and developed their own idea
and fact to perform their job very well. It also helps their ability to have a higher skill in the said
field chosen.

• To the School

This study will help the school to give good image because the students are the assets of
the school.

REVIEW OF RELATED STUDIES

• LOCAL LITERATURE

Happy English Tutorial Services provides high-grade instructions to Korean students learning
English as Foreign Language (EFL) and English as Second Language (ESL). The teachers have
the responsibilities to teach the students using a systematic plan of lecture, discussions, assign
and correct homework. They have to check the attendance, evaluate progress and determine the
individual needs of the students.

They must prepare lesson and teach English to Korean students. They include teaching English
grammar writing, reading, speaking and listening skills. They may also include teaching
pronunciation and accent reduction.

The EnglishTutor.com is a tutoring and editing service dedicated to helping people all over the
world improve their written and spoken English.

Their tutoring services allow students to receive effective English instruction in the comfort and
quiet of their own homes at session times which are most convenient for them. Whether they live
in the US, Canada, Korea or any location around the world, their English Tutors are waiting to
help them.

All of the tutors at the EnglishTutor.com are certified teachers in the province of Ontario, Canada.
Most are currently teaching in secondary or elementary schools in the province. All of the tutors
are English specialists.

If the student is a high school student and they are experiencing difficulty with their English, they
can sign-up for their online tutoring. This is a fee based service that will allows them to be tutored
one-to-one over the Internet by certified English teachers from the province of Ontario.

- Leeds Language College

Leeds Language College teaches English to foreign students over 18 at an affordable and
competitive price. At Leeds Language College, the students can choose to study a General
English course, a First Certificate Exam (FCE) course or an International English Teaching

effectively according to their needs.
- Talk English

TalkEnglish.com developed the “Click, Listen and Repeat” functionality. In most of the lessons,
the students read the sentence, click on the sentence to listen to the sentence, and then they can
practice speaking by repeating after the audio file provided by a native English speaker. This
proven method strengthens their reading, speaking and listening all the same time and enables
you to speak English fluently.
CHAPTER III
METHOD RESEARCH USED

In accumulating a resources website, the proponent used different and definite method for
research. In gathering a research the proponent conduct an interview, observation, and internet
related system.

• OBSERVATION

In observation the proponent gathered data and information by noting fact or occurrences
regarding the details in the center to acquire information.

• INTERVIEW
The proponent conducted an interview to the management of Speak n’ Smile to press out some
information about the company and how they conduct their lessons online. It was given and
explained by the manager to help the proponent.

• INTERNET

We used the Internet to search for other schools/site that conducting an online ESL. One of the
school/site is the TalkEnglish. They have information regarding to their company. They have an
example of a sentence that the students can click and practice speaking by repeating after the
audio file. They decided to develop the “Click, Listen and Repeat” functionality.
SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT LIFE CYCLE (SDLC)

The systems development life cycle (SDLC) is a conceptual model used in project management
that describes the stages involved in an information system development project, from an initial
feasibility study through maintenance of the completed application.

• Identifying the problems, opportunities and objectives

as software is always of a large system (or business), work begins by establishing the
requirements for all system elements and then allocating some subset of these
requirements to software. This system view is essential when the software must interface
with other elements such as hardware, people and other resources. System is the basic
and very critical requirement for the existence of software in any entity. So if the system is
not in place, the system should be engineered and put in place. In some cases, to extract
the maximum output, the system should be re-engineered and spruced up. Once the
ideal system is engineered or tuned, the development team studies the software
requirement for the system.

To be able to identify the problem opportunity and objective of the website the proponent
conducted an interview with the manager to pin- point the problem regarding the center
website. Progressively the proponents identify the flow of the center during the extended
conversation problem and solution for the problem was formulated.

• Determining the Information Requirement

The next phase of SDLC determining the information requirement .This process is also
known as feasibility study. In this phase, the development team visits the customer and
studies their system. They investigate the need for possible software automation in the
given system. By the end of the feasibility study, the team furnishes a document that
holds the different specific recommendations for the candidate system. It also includes
the personnel assignments, costs, project schedule, target dates etc.... The requirement
gathering process is intensified and focused specially on software. To understand the
nature of the program(s) to be built, the system engineer or "Analyst" must understand
the information domain for the software, as well as required function, behavior,
performance and interfacing. The essential purpose of this phase is to find the need and
to define the problem that needs to be solved.

The proponent will start with documentation of requirement needed in gathering


information like simple interviewing, questioning, and website work product. The
proponents analyze and manage the requirement and final output of determining
requirement stage.

• Systems analysis Needs

The next phase of SDLC analyzing system needs. Refines project goals into defined
functions and operation of the intended application. Analyzes end-user information
needed, the development team pin point a possible output of a website. One such tool is
brainstorming again a special tools and techniques help the proponent make requirement
determination was applied in this phase to gathered data for a possible output of the
website.

• Designing the Recommended System

the next phase, the designing the recommended system, the software's overall structure
and its nuances are defined. In terms of the client/server technology, the number of tiers
needed for the package architecture, the database design, the data structure design etc...
are all defined in this phase. Describes desired features and operations in detail,
including screen layouts, business rules, transaction and other documentation.

The proponent started to design and output the website making the environment friendly
in order for the user and client to understand quietly the website.

• Development and Maintaining the System

The next phase of SDLC is the Development and Maintaining the System. The objective
of the Development Phase will be to convert the deliverables of the Design Phase into a
complete information system. Although much of the activity in the Development Phase
addresses the computer programs that make up the system, this phase also puts in place
the hardware, software, and communications environment for the system and other
important elements of the overall system.

After designing the website some tasks and activities may have been perform by the
proponents and developer documentation may be appropriate to meet some
documentation requirements Plans for conducting the activities of the development phase
should be developed, documented and executed.

• Testing and maintaining the system

Before a website can be used , it must be tested .In this phase of SDLC , the testing and
maintaining the system .After the proponent generation of codes, testing of all the
modules is performed. All modules are integrated together and proper testing tools are
selected for error checking. Maintenance is necessary after the development of a
successful project. It is obvious that changes occur once the project is handed over to the
end user. The developers must develop the project in such a way that it is adaptable to
those changes. The main operation of the software must not be affected by those
changes.

The website perform a series of test different types of testing like unit testing, volume
testing, link testing, load testing, performance testing, download testing. The proponents
correct an error and state the correct way.

• Implementation and Evaluation the system

In this phase the proponent initiated after the system has been tested and accepted by
the user. Activities in this phase include notification of implementation to end users,
execution of the previously defined training plan, data entry or conversion, certification
and accreditation and post implementation evaluation. This phase continues until the
system is operating in production in accordance with the defined user requirements.
The proponent presented and tested the website to the manager for evaluation. It was
tested and clearly so that the user will familiar with it.
CHAPTER V
SUMMARY
The Speak n’ Smile Educational Assistance Center doesn’t have a website that entertains
the client to serve them.

In the interview and observation occurred, the proponents just found out that the problem
these encounter is that lack of promotion to their company and few features. They don’t have
enough features to inform the client.

Because of the said problem, proponents design a website that aims to help the future
benefits of the said company and at the same time to the owner. To lessen the problem
encountered, the proponents proposed a website that aimed to accomplish a site that will provide
promotion to the assessment center and to encourage the viewer or client to try on their
operation.
RECOMMENDATION

It is no wonder that the technology nowadays rules the community. The proponents
observe that there are certain things that should be done with the help of the modern
technologies for much greater benefits.

The proponents recommended to use our designate website of the Speak n’ Smile
Educational Assistance Center. The proposed website will give more benefits and help a lot to the
said business.

CONCLUSION

The succeeding analysis of determining the problem on the said company lead the
proponents to build and design a website that would help a lot to both the owner and the
business itself.

The proponents conclude that generating the proposed website will give more advantages
and benefits in the said business.
