ENG2D Grade 10 English, Academic Course Outline


Description/Rationale: This course extends the range of analytic reading, writing, oral
communication, and thinking skills that students need for success in secondary school
academic programs. Students will study and interpret challenging texts from contemporary and
historical periods, including novels, poems, plays, and opinion pieces, and will analyze and
create effective media works. An important focus will be the thoughtful use of spoken and
written language.
This course emphasizes core reading and writing skills as well as correct usage and style. The
culminating unit draws on the knowledge and skills learned throughout the course. The
chronology of the units listed may vary among sections based on book availability.

novel; critical and creative writing activities related to
the novels; group seminar and individual research
essay on a social issue related to the novels.
