Course Description: This one-year course is designed to continue the development of algebraic
concepts while introducing students to inductive and deductive systems of reasoning. Emphasis
is put on developing visualization abilities, analytical skills, and reasoning methods through proof
writing. Various instructional techniques are utilized including manipulatives, mathematical tools,
and technology. Students will be expected to create and defend logical arguments about
mathematical concepts orally and in writing. Students will establish goals related to passing the
Mathematics II End of Course Exam. This course will fulfill one of the mathematics credits
required for high school graduation.
Binders: Students will be responsible for maintaining a one-inch binder as a working portfolio of
all notes, study materials and classwork. Students are encouraged to keep their binders in the
classroom, taking them home only to complete missing assignments and to study for upcoming
assessments. Binder cleanliness and organization will be graded regularly. This binder is the only
required item for this class. Please speak with one of the teachers if there are any issues
obtaining a binder.
Requested Materials: The following materials should be brought to class on a daily basis:
Pencils
Red or green pen for correcting work
Highlighters
Grading:
The grading scale for this class will be:
A = 90 100%
B = 80 89%

C = 70-79%

D = 60 69%

F = 0 59%

Quarter grades are divided as follows:

Assessments: 70%
Classwork: 20%
Homework: 10%
Each quarter represents 40% of the semester grade, with a cumulative semester exam
representing the remaining 20%. (Q1/Q2 = 40%, Q3/Q4 = 40%, SE1/2 = 20%)
Citizenship Grade: Students are expected to follow all CCSD, Del Sol, and classroom rules.
Every student begins the quarter with a satisfactory (S) grade for citizenship. By participating
positively in class activities a student may raise this grade to outstanding (O). Students who do
NOT complete assignments, take lecture notes, and arrive on time will have a lower citizenship
grade.
Late Work Policy: *No work can be accepted once grades are posted for the quarter.*
Items turned in at the beginning of class on the day they are due: 100% maximum credit
Items turned in by the end of the instructional unit: 75% maximum credit
Items turned in by the end of the collection period for the quarter: 50% maximum credit

Test/Quiz Corrections and Retakes: All students are encouraged to correct any missed
opportunities from in-class assessments. Students may earn up to 50% of the missed points.
Furthermore, if a student would like to attempt an even higher grade, they may re-take an
alternate version of the assessment. An assessment can only be retaken once. The higher of the
two grades will remain. No corrections are accepted for retakes.
Online Access/Make-up Work: All assignments will be made available through teacherorganized websites (using Weebly to manage the pages). After an absence, the student is
responsible for obtaining the missed assignments from the assignment board and obtaining the
missed notes from another student. The student has three (3) school days from the date absent
to obtain the missing work. The work must be completed, and turned in to the teacher, within a
week of the absence. If a student exceeds 10 unexcused absences in a semester, he/she will not
earn credit regardless of class grade. If a student questions an absence, he/she should obtain an
absence printout from the attendance office.
Extra Help: If, during class time, there is not ample opportunity to answer individual students
questions, we strongly encourage you to seek help before or after school.
