What do we want students to learn?

What are standards?

Describes what a student should know
and be able to do at any given grade
level in a given subject area.
New Illinois state standards have been
in place since 2010. They are more
rigorous than previous standards,
focused on critical and creative thinking
and problem solving.

What does it mean to be

Standards-based?

School districts that adopt a standards

based system view teaching, learning,
assessment, and reporting through the
lens of specific targets for students.
These targets have been identified by
the state and are called standards.

How are standards

addressed
in the classroom?

The CCSD93 curriculum is a standardsbased curriculum which provides a

roadmap for teachers to use to insure
that instruction targets the content
standards. Teachers then use
assessments to measure learning and
the extent to which a student has met
the grade level content standards.

How do we measure
student
progress toward
Standards?

How Do We Share Student

distributed

Feedback on both academic progress and

learning skills progress is provided
Student progress towards achieving the
Standards will be reported using the
numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5.

that allows you to view your childs standards

your childs school containing login information. Once
you setup this login information, it will remain the same

What does District 93 believe

about homework?

Homework is related to the curriculum, meaningful,

and integrated into instruction.
Homework prepares students for instruction, previews
or practices skills and concepts, or extends learning.
Teachers use the information they glean from
completed homework tasks to plan instruction, not as
a summative assessment of a students ability.
A students responsibility for completing homework is
monitored. Coming to school unprepared may
negatively impact a students ability to meet a
standard.

Assignments
Make-up Work

Homework

Children should be reading an

average of 20 minutes/night
Homework might consist of;
math homelinks, reading work,
handwriting practice, math facts
practice
Assignments are expected to
be returned the following day,
unless otherwise noted.
Late assignments impact
report card grades
under Learner
Characteristics.

Upon request, make-up work

needed due to illness will be
prepared and may be
collected in the front office
at the end of the school day;
materials will not be released
to another student without
request from a parent.
In case of extended absence
due to vacation, students are
asked to prepare a writing
journal about their activities
and complete practice
activities electronically, if
possible.

Classroom instruction is vital to

learning progress extended
vacations are discouraged.
