Day: M T W T F
Year: _2015__

Date: __02/09/2015___ Time: _____________

Learning Area: ____yr8________ Topic: _____Algabra________

Curriculum content description: (from ACARA)
Introduce the concept of variables as a way of representing numbers using letters. Create algebraic expressions and evaluate them
by substituting a given value for each variable. Extend and apply the laws and properties of arithmetic to algebraic terms and
expressions

Students prior knowledge and experience:

Based on time in class, I can say that the students knowledge is
somewhat limited when it comes to mathematics. More could be
gleamed from the students using simple problems to gauge
understanding
Learning purpose: (May refer to the Elaborations of the curriculum content
description here)

to refresh and reinforce basic algebra knowledge

Learning objectives:
On completion of this lesson, students will be able to:
Complete Algebra 2-part equations

Preparation and Resources:

Printouts of sample questions, Provided by teacher

Catering for diversity

(detail any adjustments considerations for

educational/resource adjustments)

If general concept is lost on students, Ill look to lower benchmarks and focus on
refreshing base skills required for the lesson. Try to use examples to make the
concept of algebra more understandable, and also give reasons to learn the subject

2/5

Learning Experiences:
1. Introduction: (How will I engage the learners?)
First introduce myself and introduce the concept, make sure they understand that
its a concept they already done.
2. Sequence of learning experiences: (What will you do to help the
students achieve the learning objectives? What tasks and activities will
the students be involved in to help achieve the learning objectives?)
While working through the questions, try to find common knowledge to help
explain the concept, and reinforce what they know or at least refresh their
knowledge
Examples of common knowledge:
- Clips of ammunition, and finding extra bullets in videogame
(2clips+2=Total)
- Cartons of eggs adding extra eggs
- Collecting fruit
Main concept of lesson it to reinforce algebra knowledge that the students
already know

3. Lesson conclusion: (How will you summarise the learning and relate it
to the lesson objectives?)
The main objective of the lesson, is to take a step back, and refresh information
that the students already learnt, to help them understand 2 part equations.

3/5

Lesson Evaluation:
(Reflect on the lesson. What worked? What did not work? What would you change? Why?)

The students I worked with seemed to nearly grasp the

concept. I felt very comfortable with the subject and
students, and used examples like video games and truck
driving to show how to use algebra in the real world, since
they had real world aspirations towards those fields
I wish I had some physical props to help the students
visualize the lesson. But in general I felt I had a good
repour with the students, and achieved my intent with the
lesson, which was reinforcing the ideas of algebra.
