First Grade St. Viator School

What We Are Learning in Room 202!

Reading We have jumped right into Welcome Back, Superkids! We are
reviewing the letter sounds, as well as getting reacquainted with all of the
characters through songs and stories.
Math Students have begun Chapter 1 in Go Math! Students will get the
chance to explore our math units through manipulatives, writing, and
technology! We will also be focusing on a different math strategy each
day of the week, including Mental Math Monday, Tally Tuesday, Word
Work Wednesday, Teamwork Thursday, and Figure Friday!
Religion Students have been reviewing the prayers and routines of school
and church. We have also begun our first unit in religion about being a
member of the church. Next week Thursday (September 3) will be our
first all-school mass at 9:30am. Hope you can make it!
Writing- We have begun a review of writing skills, including labeling and
practicing our letters. Students have also been sharing their work with
one another to provide feedback!

Starting the week after next, one
student each week will be selected as our
Student of the Week. When it is your
students special week, they will have a
special activity each day of that week.
These include: presenting their posters,
Show and Tell day, taking home our
stuffed classroom mascot and writing
about the adventure, and bringing in a
parent to read to the class! More
information will be sent home next week!

Scholastic orders will be sent

home on Monday! They will be due
back Friday, September 11!
Other Classroom News

Homework

Official homework will begin the week

after Labor Day.
Students will be participating in our
Executive Functioning schoolwide
program, with class folders and
assignment notebooks being sent
home each night.
Parents will receive an email in the
next few days to register your child
with the Superkids portal so that those
assignments can be completed.

Thank you SO much for the wonderful welcome to the

school year. I am so excited for this school year, and your
support is incredible!
At Parent Night on September 3, I will have a schedule
available to sign up for volunteering in the classroom. This
is often during our reading or math centers and the
students have loved showing their skills to parent helpers.
Please remember to send students in full uniform. With
cool weather on its way, it is helpful for students to keep a
school sweatshirt in their backpacks. Please label all
clothing!
Our gym days this year are Mondays and Thursdays.
Please make sure students wear gym shoes and bring extra
when the weather is wet.
