Course Description & Goals


The objective of seventh grade science is to continue to expose student to topics across the spectrum of physical, life, and
earth science. Students will be exposed to a variety of means for understanding and thinking critically about the
information that is presented to them. They will be encouraged to work collaboratively on projects, presentations, and
labs. Individually, they will be frequently asked to demonstrate their knowledge of topics through a variety of means. The
course culminates in a North Carolina Final Exam, the Measures of Standard Learning.

Tutoring
I will offer tutoring sessions before and after school Thursdays beginning the third week of school. The morning session
begins at 7:45 and the afternoon session ends at 5:30. If I must cancel a session, I will attempt to inform parents of the
change as soon as possible.
Criteria for Credit
Properly label assignments with name, date, block in RIGHT hand
corner & title/details of assignment in LEFT hand corner.
Torn or dirty papers are unacceptable.
Assessments (tests, quizzes, exit tickets) must include the signed honor pledge (On my honor, I have neither
given nor received any unauthorized aid on this assessment.)
Retesting Policy
Students who score a 70 or above are NOT eligible for re-testing
Students scoring < 70% on a Common Assessment have the opportunity to re-test if they meet the following criteria:

1. Students must have ALL homework assignments turned in for every unit covered on the Common Assessment in
order to be eligible to re-test.
2. Students must complete corrections on loose leaf paper for EVERY question missed or with points taken off.
Note: Test corrections do NOT count as the re-test
3. Re-Tests must be completed within 2 weeks of original test date. This can be done on dates that have been scheduled
by Ms. Hardy.
4. Student must take the ENTIRE re-test (all sections) over again.
The HIGHEST score a student can receive on a re-test is 80%
(Re-test score of 80-100% will be replaced with 80% in gradebook;
All lower scores will be entered in as marked)
If you are absent:
You have 5 days to make up and turn in missed work.
If you do not turn it in, the grade become a zero.
You will find all work in the absent work crate under the window. Pick up this work on the first day back upon
entering class.
You must write absent at the top of the paper along with the dates of absence so that I know you are
submitting make up work.
Homework that was assigned before your absence must be turned in the day you return.
If you miss a test day, the test will be made up during AE&E the Friday following.
Late work policy
If a student turns in an assignment after the due date and was present in class on the day it was given AND on the due
date, the assignment is considered LATE and will be awarded at MAX a score of 3 using the scale below (fewer points
may be awarded).
Homework policy
Homework is essential for maximum retention of material covered in science class. Students MUST complete their
homework every night.
Each homework assignment will be scored as follows:
5 = 100% of problems completed
4 = score of 3 re-done
3 = 50-99% of problems completed
2 = score of 1 re-done
1 = less than 50% of problems completed
0 = assignment missing
Grade Scale
A: 90 100
B: 80 89
C: 70 79
D: 60 69
F: Below 59
