act, pure and simple. The other area of concern is phishing or social engineerin
g. An easy fix for that is to switch to Google Public DNS which gives clear (red
banner) warning of known phishing sites before you enter the site and allows yo
u to deny the site. Google Public DNS is the first customization I make to any n
ew Linux install. It's easy to do, just takes a few seconds and is easily revers
ible if for some "unknown" reason you decide you don't want it. Basically, just
switch your DNS addresses for IPv4 and IPv6 from "Automatic (DHCP)", to "Automat
ic (DHCP) addresses only" and add the Google DNS servers to each. For IPv4 use 8
.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 For IPv6 use 2001:4860:4860::8888, 2001:4860:4860::8844That's it
. As an added benefit, your browsing and page loads will be much faster (due to
Googles' advanced cacheing algorithims), glitch free, and there's no commercial
content at all, so even error pages come up clean with no logos. It's a vast imp
