Authority to -get tough |
United Arab Emirates
officials yesterday
announced they are set to
get tougher on
construction companies
over health and safety
issues after The Ministerial
Council for Services held
its ordinary meeting at the
Presidential Palace in Abu
Dhabiunder the
chairmanship of
Mohammed Abdullah Al
Gergawi, Minister of State
for Cabinet Affairs.
According to UAE news
agency WAM, the council
recommended the
establishment of a National
Authority for Inspection
and Occupational Health
and Safety, which will be
responsible for
implementing labour laws
and carrying out control
and inspection operations,
to ensure that all
companies and
corporations comply with
their standards, and to
seek a hazard-free working
environment.
The proposed authority
is expected to begin its
responsibilities within the
next six months.
