GROUP 1 TECHNIQUE CLASS


Seated Activity:
Objective- Bow hand review
Students sitting criss cross apple sauce in a circle, with only bows
Review Unicorn Position (bow hand on head) for silence.
Bow hand concepts:

Objective- Name the notes of a one octave G major scale
Students still seated.
Violin instructor plays up 1 octave scale and students count how many notes:

Count going back down to confirm.

Violin instructor plays out each note of scale and pauses for students to say:
Good Morning G, Good Morning A, Good Morning Betc

Violin Position Set-up:


Objectives- Enforcing proper rest/playing position
Formation: Planted in rows of vegetables/fruits so each student can see sun.
Discuss pockets of sunlight and have students stand where the sunlight can
reach them.
1. Rest Position Song: Rest position toes in line, scroll out front thats
mighty fine. Check your bridge cause it should be, peaking out at you
and me. Point your bow down to your toes, now were ready set to go.

Objectives- Bowing techniques, left hand shapes
Two octave G major scale on violins:

Practice listening to each other and following instructors bow length

Without violins discuss hand shapes, focusing on low 2s in G scale:

In rows, in proper violin set-up, practice Martele and Detache:

Extensions:
Objective- G major scale in a round
Return to G major scale with a focus on intonation and listening.
Have each row play a different part, so the scale is played as a round.
Identify student leaders.
Allow students to experience play are different parts of the round.

Lining Up:
Objectives- establishing routines
Teach students to push chairs away from drums.
Discuss appropriate behaviour around the drums when leaving the class.
