Welcome to the 2014 2015 school year here at Highland Park

and to Miss Bushues, Mrs. Gentrys, Ms. Peake-Hopkins, Mr. Marshalls and Mr.
Vanoudenhaegens Physical Education classes. We hope you will find this class
syllabus helpful in understanding what your student will be learning and how their
achievement will be assessed and reported. We also included behavioral expectations,
PE policies and procedures.
Academic Learning Targets for all Physical Education classes. This is what your
student will be learning. Learning Targets have been developed for every subject / class
for 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Targets are intended to clearly identify and align the expected
learning. These targets are consistent across all 8 of the Beaverton Middle Schools.
In Physical Education the reporting categories being assessed are:
* Demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and
movement patterns.
* Apply knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and
tactics related to movement and performance.
* Demonstrate ways to achieve and maintain a healthenhancing level of physical fitness.
* Demonstrate moderate to vigorous movement in all activities.
* Demonstrate class expectations by being prepared, following
rules, procedures, directions, and etiquette.
Rubrics. A rubric is a scoring guide that has many uses. It clearly defines the
expectations at each level of proficiency, helps with self, peer and teacher formative
assessment and ultimately, guides the summative assessment (end product.) Rubrics will
be used to assess student progress on the learning targets and provide feedback to
students on how to improve their proficiency or mastery of the learning.
