Objectives:
Students will come up with a plan to collect money for Pennies for Peace.
Students will collaborate as a class to set and reach goals for Pennies for Peace.
Students will blog about their collected data.
The Organization: Pennies for Peace
This program gives money to the children of Central Asia to help with their education.
The Plan: Teachers will introduce the program Pennies for Peace. Teachers will explain that not
all students are fortunate enough to go to school with supplies, teachers and even buildings.
Teachers will ask students if they can think of an idea to help the children of Central Asia.
Teachers will guide students in brainstorming about ideas and ways to collect pennies for the
Pennies for Peace Campaign.
Group Work:
Meeting One: Students will meet with their group and brainstorm ways to collect pennies.

Meeting Two: Students will set a goal for the amount of pennies they wish to collect.
Meeting Three: Students will make and decorate their collection devices. (cans/jars/bottles)
Meeting Four: Students will make posters and set a date to begin the coin collection.
Meeting Five: Students will meet after two weeks to count the coins and see their progress
toward their goal.
Meeting Six: Students will meet at the end of four weeks to count the collected coins and see if
their goal was met.
Technology: Students will blog about their progress after each meeting. This website will be
provided to the parents and to those who donate coins to show the overall progress. The blog can
be input by students or the teacher for younger grades.
