VOLUNTEER/PLACEMENT EXPERIENCE
Student Teacher from September 2014 to April 2015, (175 + hours)
St. John Bosco Catholic Elementary School, 1025 North Park Drive, Brampton ON, L6S
4E1
I worked as a Student Teacher in a Full-Day Kindergarten classroom. My responsibilities
included, planning, preparing, and presenting inclusive lessons designed for the whole class. I
also assessed and recorded student development while receiving regular parent feedback on
their development. I encouraged children to explore a range of materials provided through a
play based learning curriculum while maintaining a structured, safe and supportive
environment.
Student Teacher/ Volunteer from September 2013 to June 2014, (250 hours)
St. Anthony Catholic Elementary School, 950 North Park Drive, Brampton ON, L6S
3L5
I worked as a Student Teacher in a Full Day Kindergarten classroom and had performed similar
duties as described above (St. John Bosco). However, I was also provided individual support to a
child who has autism by encouraging him to engage with the inclusive environment provided.
While also volunteering within the school I assisted in preparing school functions, events, and
supervised lunch and recess periods. Even as a volunteer I strive to enforce the code of
conduct required from the students at all times. In addition, I collaborated with other faculty
members with their daily tasks and activities.
Assistant ECE from September 2013 to November 2013, (120 hours)
Noahs Ark Day Care, 9395 Bramalea Road, Brampton ON, L6S 2C7
In Noahs Ark Day Care I worked as an Assistant ECE in the toddler room. I implemented
activities that are conducive to childrens physical, cognitive, language, emotional, social and
creative development and well-being, while also providing a positive learning environment. I
also encouraged childrens independence through encouraging them to complete tasks on their
own, such as getting dressed and eating with utensils.
Assistant ECE/ Supply Teacher from January 2012 to August 2012, (585 hours)
First Friends Preschool and Daycare, 860 North Park Drive, Brampton ON, L6S 4N5
In First Friends Preschool and Daycare I started as an assistant ECE in the preschool room. I
utilized a positive approach that prioritizes the use of redirection, positive language and
positive reinforcement to encourage correct appropriate behaviour. Additionally, I worked with
my team members in creating and implementing activities that improve all levels of
development and assisted the children in learning personal hygiene skills. Once I was hired as a
Supply Teacher I was able to experience a variety of age groups which varied from six months
to twelve years of age. I also provided these children with age-appropriate activities throughout
the day, while maintaining their safety and wellbeing at all times. Furthermore, I also worked
individually with several children who have autism. This experience of working with children
who have this developmental disability, like my previous experiences, was a highly rewarding
one. By being exposed to a different approach in teaching and learning, it taught me how
important an inclusive environment is to ensure that all children can be accommodated fairly
and effectively.
