Pete Byvoets, Bob LeMay, Nick Meyer, Jane Neulieb & Joy Schmitt We have voluntarily worked the past four years to make sure that Long Beach residents do not lose their historic right to use the beach. This has not been an easy fight. We have battled two lawsuits, one appellate court case and DNR hearings all initiated by lakefront residents trying to restrict resident use of the beach. These court fights continue. But the historic right for all of us to use the beach has been threatened by members of the opposing slate and their organization the Long Beach Lakefront Homeowners Association. Their attorney actually proposed the following ordinance to the Long Beach Town Council, which reads that our use of the beach is to be limited as follows:
It expressly, but without limitation, does not include the right to
stop, sit, camp, hunt, fish, sunbathe, anchor, disembark, or otherwise use the Carrying Places for anything other than merely traveling through. A complete copy of their proposed ordinance can be found at www.
Their proposal is certainly NOT uniting our community as they claim.
