Math This week we worked on solving multiple step problems and dividing

by multiples of 10 and by two digit divisors. This has been a challenging week
in math for quite a few students. I keep preaching MEMORIZE FACTS for
good reason! We will finish up this unit next week. We will be testing over Topic
5 next Thursday.

Reading

Our story next week is called A Summers Trade. Its about a

boy who works hard to save up money in order to purchase a saddle he has
been wanting for a long time. Just when he has almost reached his goal family illness causes him to make a decision on whether he will give up his dream
to help out his family in need. We will work on the reading skill of authors
purpose and continue to work on citing evidence from the text.

Grammar Next week we will be working on combining sentences together

with conjunction words and commas.

Writing This week we worked through a grammar/writing test packet

from ACUITY that the school did not use as a formal assessment tool. We,
instead, used it for instruction to prepare students for the kinds of grammar/writing questions and prompts that they will be expected to answer on
ISTEP in the spring.

Spelling- Our list focuses on final syllables. This will be a tough test. The
best way to prepare for this test is to practice, practice, practice.

Social Studies We began our new unit which is on Early European Explorers. We will be learning about the various countries that sent explorers
and the reasons behind their travels. 3 Gs = God, Glory, Gold

Science-This week we continued learning about our solar system. We have

taken our time reading and reviewing our lesson over the Solar System since
there is so much information. We also learned about the suns position in relation to the tilt of the Earth which causes seasons.

Note From the Teacher:

We are still currently selling Tupperware to raise money for our Camp Amigo trip. Order forms and money are due Friday, October 16. Please help us raise money by asking family member s, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances for orders. Every little bit helps, and
our bank account is severely low this year!
Today I sent home a Student-Led Conference time confirmation on a half sheet of paper. Please mark this time down in your calendar. Dont forget to bring your child since he/
she will be leading the conference. I cant wait to meet with both of you to discuss
strengths, weaknesses, goals, and whats to come!
