Alayna Giles Bell, a Family Legend

Alayna Giles was born on September 15, 1970. Her father, Charles E.
Giles, Sr., was of limited education. Her mother, Cora Mae Giles was the first
high school graduate in her family. Together they had five girls and 3 boys,
of which Miss Giles was the 6 th child. Alayna Giles Bell is a family legend
because she dared to be different and get a college degree.
Miss Giles was not pushed to pursue higher learning. Her dad only
completed the 6th grade and her mom only completed the 12 th grade. But,
Miss Giles was determined to be different. In high school, she took all
advance courses and graduated in the top ten percent in her class of 365
students. Following graduation, Miss Giles turned down six scholarship offers
and chose not to go to college. She soon learned there must be more to life
and, at the age of 30, took the ACT and started her college career at
Louisiana State University. Miss Giles met Richard Lee Bell, II, in 1996, and
they married on April 21, 2001. To their union were born tow beautiful
children, AriAnna (19) and LTrevion (16).
Despite her family struggles, Mrs. Alayna Giles Bell was determined to
go higher than others in her family. She graduated from LSU with a degree in
Business Management and Administration. Mrs. Bell didnt stop there.
Scoring a twenty-four on her ACT allowed her to opt out of taking the PRAXIS
I. She became a long-term substitute Math teacher, for Caddo Parish
Schools, at Caddo Middle Career and Technology School. In an effort to
better herself, Mrs. Bell studied, took the PRAXIS II, and re-entered school to
become a certified teacher.
Alayna Giles Bell is my Family Legend because she pursued higher
education (college), and became a professional teacher, in spite of her family
history. None of Mrs. Bells siblings went to college. She was the first in her
family to graduate high school with honors, and the first to graduate from
college with a degree. Mrs. Bell later became the first in her family to go
back to college to get her second degree in Middle School Math.
Mrs. Bells determination has help our family be more goal-oriented
and successful. As a result of her hard work, I went to private school and

enjoy many pleasures of life. Yes, Mrs. Alayna Giles Bell is my mother. I am
proud of the woman she has become, and I am proud to be her son. My
mom gives me strength and always encourages me to be the best me as
possible. Someday, I hope to attend college at the University of Alabama
and move on to the NFL, and become a professional football player.
