concept. Remember, this is an explanation about what the author/text
is saying specifically about that theme.

class. Add images to illustrate your theme; World War I photography is

Example Analysis: Siddhartha


Thematic Concept: Individuality
Theme statement: Through showing the many ways
Siddhartha chooses to challenge his own beliefs and those of
others, Hesse is able to show the theme of individuality in the
text; this helps readers see that when it comes to finding true
fulfillment in life a person has to select his own path, be his own
person, instead of just blindly following that prescribed by
another.
Example I:
Siddhartha begins to discover the importance of choosing his
own individual path when as a young man he makes the difficult
decision to leave his father to find his own way. Hesse
establishes this through the metaphor that we may all have the
same target, but our arrows may take different paths:
While putting himself down, ready to speak the Om, Siddhartha
repeated murmuring the verse:
Om is the bow, the arrow is soul,
