Dear Parents/Carers

It is hard to believe that there are only 9 weeks left of the school yearwhere has the
year gone? We have certainly left the best to last in Year One. We have an exciting term
ahead
and the following will detail what is happening in our final term.
Swimming lessons have begun this week. Given the current weather, the students were
very excited to be swimming. It is compulsory that all students are swimming and
participating in lessons. Please refer to your childs swimming timetable for more
information. It is important that your child is continuing to read each night. This can be
completed through home-readers, Bug Club, library books or books from home or local
libraries. Please ensure that your child is also learning their magic words. If your child is
waiting to be tested, just simply move onto their next set of words. There will be other
home-tasks that will come home at various points during the term. Keep an eye out in
your childs blue homework folder for these tasks. Below are the end of year expected
standards for reading:
READING: Students are to be working between a level 11 to 15
MAGIC WORDS: Students should know all words up to and including purple.
If you have any concerns or queries in regards to these expected standards, please
dont
hesitate to speak to your childs class teacher. Please remember this is the end of year
expected standard, NOT the expected standard now.
Even though we are in our final term of the year, we cannot emphasise enough the
importance of punctuality and correct uniform. Particularly after holidays, it is easy for
students and families to forget the schools expectations or become complacent. Please
ensure that your
child is arriving to school on time and that the correct uniform is worn correctly each
day. This includes (for girls) correct coloured hair ties, plain gold or silver studs, hair tied
up for hair
past the collarand (for boys) hair is kept above the collar and in a tidy manner. If you
have any concerns please refer to the parent handbook or portal for further information.
Ta Da! is beginning next Thursday Yipee! Ta Da! is a school-wide program that allows
students to participate in an activity that they might not typically get to do in the
classroom. For example; cooking, gardening, yoga, gymnastics just to name a few.
This is at no additional cost to families. This week, students have voted on an activity
that they would like to do each Thursday (1:30-2:45pm) for three weeks. Students also
have the opportunity to work with other teachers within the school. Thank you to those
parents that have also volunteered their time to help out with this program. It is sure to
be a success!
Below is a summary of what your child will be learning in Term 4:
Religion: Students will explore and compare the Gospels, with a particular focus on the
birth and youth of Jesus.
Maths: Students will explore many topics this term. These including; time, fractions,
capacity and number. Students will hone in on their addition and subtraction skills.
English: Students will be delving into the world of characters and how we can bring
them to

life by using adjectives and descriptive language. Students will have the opportunity to
take on
a character, dress as them for a day and write a character description. Students will
also
deliver an oral to their classmates, taking on the role of their character. More
information will come home soon.
Science: Students are exploring light and sound, and how they can be sensed by our
bodies. Their learning will culminate in the construction of a space vehicle which uses
light and sound elements.
Geography: Students are learning about the purpose of different spaces and how we
can rearrange a space to meet different needs.
Art: Students will be participating in drama games/activities to help with portraying a
character with confidence and conviction.
History: Students will explore how things have changed over time and learn how to
describe
the sequence of time.
Digital Technologies: Students will continue to develop their coding and problem
solving skills.
Students are expected to wear their sports uniform on Monday and Tuesday. This has
remained the same as last term. Tomorrow is Crazy Hair Day! Year 1 White will lead our
Prayer
assembly this week telling us about the work of Catholic Mission in Australia and the
students have organised a special Crazy Hair Day to raise needed funds for the
charity. Just a reminder that it is a gold coin donation.
