Twothousandandonewasaneventfulyearinmanyways.ItwastheyearKelly
ClarksonwonAmericanIdol,ahugeearthquakestruckIndia,andAmericabecamethetalkof
everynationafteraterribletragedy.
ThereweremanyfactorsthatledintothisattackupontheUnitedStates.Oneofthese
wasthefactthatAmericahadmanyallies,includingIsrael.ThepeopleofAmericabecame
supportiveofIsraelaftertworeligions,JewishandMuslim,hadfoughtoverIsrael'sland.
AmericaspeoplebackedtheJewish,whichcausedsomeoftheMuslimstobecomeveryangry
withTheUnitedStates.
OthercountrieswereterriblyjealousofAmericatheysawhowmuchpowerinboth
politicalandeconomicalpoliciesthatthecitizensofAmericahad.Theseothercountrieswanted
tohaveequalpower,buttheydidnthavethecapabilitiesofdoingso.Thismadethemangry,
whichwasanotherfactorthatledintowhytheyattacked.Onemaninparticularthatthey
angeredwasOsamaBinLaden.BinLadenwastheleaderofaterroristorganizationnamedAl
Qaeda.
InordertoprotectTheArabianPeninsula,Americascitizenssentsometroopstohelp
protectandmaintainpeacewithinthearea.ThismadesomeoftheMuslimsintheareaangry,
asitwasagainsttheirreligiontohavethesepeopleontheirsoil,especiallythewomensoldiers.
Thiswasyetanotherfactorthatledtoincreasedanger,specificallyAlQaeda.
AlQaedaisaterroristgroupthatiscomposedofasmallcommunityofradicalMuslims,
whobelievethatanyonewhodoesnotfollowtheirreligionpreciselyisguiltyanddeservesa
penaltyofdeath.AlQaedahascommonlytargetedtheUnitedStates.Theyhadnever

succeededinchangingAmericanhistorytoomuchwithanattack.However,onedaythey
causedmoretragedythanAmericanspeoplecouldbeartogrieveorimagine.
OnSeptember11th,2001,millionsofAmericansweregoingabouttheirdailylives.None
ofthemhadeventheslightestclueastothetragiceventtheywereabouttowitness.Theirwork
daywentonasusual,companiessenttheirrepresentativesviaplanestofactories,familiesflew
acrossthecountrytoseetheirlovedones,andeverythingwentasplanned.Until,approximately
8:45am,thefirsthintofthetragedythatwasabouttounfoldhit.AplanehitthefirstWorldTrade
TowerAmericansacrosstheworldwatchedthisunfoldonthenews,andwereawestruckasto
howthiscouldhavehappened.Theyassumedithadbeenatragicaccident.Thepeopleinside
thetowerscrambledtotrytoescape.Manydidnthavetheluxuryofgettingoutoftheburning
building.Thetowercollapsedat10:28amthatmorning,withalmostathousandAmericansstill
inside.
At9:03am,aplanehitthesecondWorldTradeTower.Atthispoint,Americanshad
startedtorealizewhatwashappening.Thesewerenoaccidents.Thepeoplescrambledto
makeitoutside,asthistowercollapsedevenfasterthanthefirsttower.
Bythispoint,Americahadshutdownallairlines.Noplaneswereauthorizedtotakeoff.
Evenso,anotherplanehadalreadybeenhijacked.ThisonewasaimedatthePentagon.The
planereacheditstargetat9:43am.Evacuationimmediatelybegan,withhundredsofAmericans
tearingfortheexitsasfastastheycould.
When10:00amapproached,Americansdidntthinktheycouldtakeanymoretragedy.
Theywereterrified.So,whenanotherplanewashijacked,thepassengersamongtheplane
decidedtotakeaction.Theystormedthecockpitandmanagedtotakebackcontroloftheplane
andcrashitinafieldinPennsylvania.Tothisday,thesepassengersareseenasheroesamong
thehistoryofournation.

Whenthedayof9/11drewtoaclose,thehopesandconfidenceofAmericahadbeen
shattered.TherewasacloudofdebrisleftinNewYorkCity.Theseattackshadresultedinthe
deathofthousandsofAmericans.Whenthenumbersofthedeceasedwerefinallyreleased,it
wasatragedyunabletobear.Thehijackedflightshadresultedinthedeathof2,977Americans.
246oftheseAmericanswerepassengersaboardtheplanes.125werekilledwhileatthe
Pentagon.ThemostterrifyingnumberwastheamountofdeathsinNewYorkasaresultofthe
attacks.2,606NewYorkerslosttheirlivesthatday.Someofthesevictimswereworkersinthe
tradecentersorthepentagon,otherswerefirefightersandpolice.
Americaknewtheyhadtotakeaction.TheysenttroopsintoIraq.Someofthesesoldiers
wereAmericanswhohadpreviouslyretiredorweresettoretire.Otherswerenewrecruitswho
hadlittletonoexperience.Manyofthesesoldierswerekilled,selflesslygivingtheirlivesinan
attempttoprotectourcountryfromanotherattack.
Though9/11wasaterrible,tragicdaythatwillneverstophauntingthecountry,itcaused
Americanstobecomemoreresilient.Americanflagswereputupeverywhere.Thecitizensof
Americahadanewfoundsenseofrespectfortheirtroops,policemen,andfirefighters.Even
thoughtheyhadlostsomany,theystrengthenedtheirbondswiththosewhosurvived.Itwasa
bitofawakeupcallforsome,showingpeoplethattheyneverdoknowwhendisasterwillstrike.
MostimportantlyitremindedAmericansofwhotheyare.Theyarefighters.Theyareaforceto
bereckonedwith.ThecitizensofAmericaarepatriots.Andthatissomethingtheywillnever
forget.
