August 24 and 26, 2015 is the 6th week of our observing in Itlugan National High School.
This week, we are about to observe the other subjects and other resource teachers as part of our
tasks in FS 2. In Episode 1, we will observe classroom practices that apply or violate each of the
principles of learning. In first principle is Effective learning begins with the setting of clear and
high expectations and learning outcomes, the Resource Teacher do which applies the learning
principle is, the resource teacher that I observed post her intended learning outcome on the board
and share it to her students for them to be guided in the whole class. Next principle is, Learning
is an active process, the Resource Teacher do which applies the learning principle is, the
students have an active interaction to the teacher, instead of the teacher is the only one whos
speak in the whole class, she let her students participate and answer her every question. The third
one is, Learning is the discovery of personal meaning and relevance of ideas, the Teacher do
which applies this learning principle is, she allows her students to make their own insights about
the given questions or topic. In the first three principles, the resource teacher did not have any
activities that contradict to those first given principles. The last principles of learning which is
Learning is a cooperative and a collaborative process. Learning is enhanced in an atmosphere
of cooperation and collaboration, the teacher did which applies this principle of learning is,
there is an interaction between the teacher and the students. They share their own ideas and
insights about the given questions of the teacher. The non- application of activity which is
related to this principle is the group activity, the resource teacher do not always have group
activities for her students because it is time consuming.
In Episode 2, we have to observe at least three classes. Our focus this time is on lesson or
learning objectives or intended learning outcomes. In the first subject 7:00- 8:00am, which is
Araling Panlipunan, the Resource teacher is Mrs. Rowena Pural. Her learning objective is
Bumuo ng isang Modelo ng Konseptong Demand gamit ang Handy Materials o IT, she started
her lesson by stating her objective and she shared this to her students by posting it on the board.
As I observed, her learning objective is SMART( Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Resultoriented and Timebound), because in the end of their class, the students achieved what the
learning objective wants to them to do.
All in all, in this week of my observation, I learned that you have to make sure that your
learning objective is clearly defined to your students for them to be guided in your whole class.
And as part of the new curriculum which is K to 12 Curriculum, it is now student- centered, your
students do a lot of things than the teacher, we are just the one who will guide them, let them
discover their personal meaning about the given topic. Then, we need to prepare activities that
will enhance their learning by the atmosphere of cooperation and collaboration, like for example
the group activities.
