MAKING A MODEL CELL

PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT
Project Due Date: October 2nd 2015
DQ: The Chattahoochee Nature Center has contacted us with a dilemma. Their cell models were taken from the lobby
and they need immediate replacements. How can we as Northwood students use our knowledge of plant and animal
cells to create a 3-D replacement model for the CNC?

PROCEDURE
1) Use materials to build a plant or animal cell model. Your model should be three dimensional , not flat.
Suggested materials are listed below.
2) Your model must show cellular organelles in their approximate sizes and numbers. If you choose to construct an
animal cell, it must have the 6 organelles listed below, and the plant cell must include the 8 organelles listed below.
3) A key must be included indicating what each part of the cell is and its function.

SUGGESTED MATERIALS
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

To hold your cell, use boxes, plastic bags, clear plastic containers, a large sytrofoam ball
Dry foods such as beans, nuts, and pasta work well.
Small items including beads, pipe cleaners, straw, yarn, buttons, thread, ribbons shoestring, etc. are useful.
Modeling clay, fabric, cardboard, construction paper, newspaper can be used.
NO LIQUIDS or GELS that can make a leaky mess are allowed
