Ed Year 3:- Print End of year Report

Year 3 Bachelor of Education (P-12) preservice teachers can be expected to display interest in teaching as a career, awareness of
personal relations in teaching and an inquiring attitude to teaching and learning. There are three domains, Professional Knowledge,
Professional Practice and Professional Engagement alongside seven core standards that we ask you to reflect and write upon when
providing feedback to preservice teachers. The criteria in the report are derived from the Australian Institute for Teaching and School
Leadership (AITSL) National Graduate Teacher Standards. A copy of the Standards can be found at
http://www.aitsl.edu.au/verve/_resources/Accreditation_of_initial_teacher_education_file.pdf.
This report should be completed in consultation with the preservice teacher and other relevant colleagues. A brief comment for each
main Standard will be sufficient. Preservice teachers and teacher educators encourage you to describe specific achievements, identify
areas of concern and make recommendations for future development.
Year 3 preservice teachers can be expected to develop teaching and learning experiences in all curriculum areas, but especially in their
elective General Studies majors. They will also be investigating curriculum and practice in order to respond to the themes of Student
Diversity and Collaborating for Access and Success. Preservice teachers are expected to keep a journal containing reflections,
evaluations and thoughts about this Project Partnership work. These become examples and evidence of how they meet each of the
seven core standards of teaching. This evidence should be shared with the mentor teacher prior to the completion of this report.
PP End-of -Year Report Deadline: Week beginning 13th October 2014 - Year 3 preservice Teachers must read and acknowledge
that they have read this report by checking the tick box next to Preservice Teacher and enter their name under the compulsory

University.

END OF YEAR ASSESSMENT

At a level of practice and understanding expected in Year 3 of the Bachelor of Education, the preservice teacher is exploring and
developing an understanding of professional knowledge, practice and engagement. This exploration and development needs to address
all aspects of teacher knowledge, practice and engagement as listed. At a level of practice expected of the Year 3 preservice teacher,
please comment on areas of strength and/or aspects needing improvement in relation to the following standards.
Note: Please refer to the AITSL National Graduate Teacher Standards for a listing of the specific characteristics expected under each
of the seven standards below.
These characteristics of teachers knowledge, practice and professional engagement have been identified by teachers and teacher
educators as essential for the preparation of members of the teaching profession. This list of standards and characteristics provides a
guide to effective teaching practices that all teachers graduating from a course of preservice teacher education should have the
opportunities to consider, understand and develop as identified by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership.
Please complete the form using these symbols - A: above expectation B: at expectation C: below expectation NA: not applicable

PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE
Preservice teachers in Year 3 will develop their understanding of how teachers:
know students and how they learn

know the content and how to teach it

COMMENTS ON PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE:

Matthew was committed to his professional reading and study of course requirements for the Foundation English course delivered to our VCAL Intermediate
(Year 11). He made himself familiar with the outcomes for the unit of work he delivered and the possible modes of assessment. Matthew applied this knowledge
to the development and delivery of the work for the unit on Refugees.

Partnerships - B.Ed Year 3:- Print End of year Report

Preservice teachers in Year 3 will develop their understanding of how teachers:
plan for and implement effective teaching and learning

create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments

assess, provide feedback and report on student learning

COMMENTS ON PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE:

Matthew modified the assessment task for Alessandro - a student with a learning disability. He worked closely with myself and the teacher aide to develop a
suitable assessment task for Alessandro. Some written and verbal feedback was provided to students at the draft stage of the set task, but the task was not
completed (still in progress) and consequently a final assessment was not completed. Matthew developed an assessment rubric for the final task, and has
requested to return to the school to participate in the final assessment of the work with myself. It was due to a time constraint caused by timetabling issues at the
school that made it difficult for Matthew to see the task through to its completion.
Please indicate development in relation to the Professional Practice domain: S (S= Satisfactory;

N= Unsatisfactory)

PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT
Preservice teachers in Year 3 will develop their understanding of how teachers:
engage in professional learning

engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community

COMMENTS ON PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT:

Matthew participated in professional learning sessions; help to plan and organise the school cross country event during term two, and observed parent teacher
interviews.

MENTOR TEACHER'S RESPONSE

Matthew has been an absolute pleasure to know and to work with. Matthew is to be commended on his professional manner and his commitment to always giving
his utmost. He developed an excellent rapport with the group of students with whom he taught and worked with during his time at Fitzroy High School. He was
always prepared to assist myself and other teachers in any way he could. Matthew observed numerous classes to observe different teaching styles over different
year levels and domains. Matthew prepared lessons and activities which were relevant and engaging. He organised guest speakers and invited the school's
resident artist to workshop drawing and comic skills. Matthew's genuine and positive nature inspired students to share their thoughts and ideas, helping to
develop their confidence and literacy skills. I told Matthew that I had absolute faith in his professional knowledge and practice. What I wanted to see was his
ability to scaffold work and demonstrate a genuine passion for teaching and the kids he worked with - the intrinsic part of teaching which is not easily (if at all)
'learned'. I was looking for the 'X' factor - the 'teaching magic'. I am delighted to be able to say that Matthew has the teaching magic. His rapport and humanity
with everyone in our school community is testament to his fact. I will miss having Matthew in my classes and I know that he will be an asset to any school in
which he teaches.

PRESERVICE TEACHER'S REFLECTIVE RESPONSE

Matthew was not present at the time of writing this report. I have emailed my response to him so that he can respond to that if he wishes too. I needed to send
this report to VU as I am going on leave for three weeks and it needed to be done. I apologise in advance for doing it this way, and I will let Matthew know that I
checked and signed on his behalf, and I have written it here as evidence. Matthew can refute what I have said if he so wishes. Happy to discuss.
