Subject: Concealed weapons in the universities

To: Citizens of the United States

Lately the universities have been under the threat of possible shootings. The risk of having an
active shooter has increased as laws for concealed weapons are being discussed. More and more
people are known to be found with guns. This can be very risky not only for the one carrying the
weapon but to the students, faculty and staff from each campus. Reaching out to the community
is the only solution to control the weapons from going to safe to dangerous in the campuses.
There are alternatives that together can be approached to prevent catastrophes from occurring.
Guns are known to be part of many deaths but are also used by the law in order to bring peace
and protection. You might ask what the problem is. The problem is the misuse of the weapons,
the inappropriate way to handle them, not including the risk factors that it causes. Guns are
allowed by the second amendment which is the right to bare arms. Theres also laws that allow
you to carry handguns which are only allowed if they are smaller than your palm. Although
these laws are effective to this day weapons of all kinds are prohibited in all campuses. Each
campus has a police unit that is in charge of protecting each and every one of those who is on the
campus grounds. Officers carry weapons to defend the scholar community and are trained to
bring down any threat to the population as well and prevent crime.
Since yeah 2010 over 119 school shooting have occurs in the United States. Out of 119 around
41 of the shootings happening on college level campuses. That would equal around 30 percent
of the total shooting only since the beginning on this decade. Most of the shooting are done by
college students themselves for various reasons. Reasons may be physiological problems, anger
issues or rage towards a person or a targeted group.
There are different ways the community may help support a call for change with the concealed
gun. One may be signing a petition and allowing other to sign it in order to get it sent to the
government or even the president. Other forms include walks for the cause, talking to
government representatives about the concern and supporting the ATF (The bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives). Either option taken can lead for a change in every campus.
The risk of having an active shooter increases when many carry a gun which may be used the
wrong way. Buying a gun may be done illegally by the black market or other forms in which the
buyer is not registered nor do they have a permit or proper training. Getting a gun is not hard
and misusing one isnt hard either which is why we should keep them off the campus to avoid
tragedies. Law enforcement carry them to protect the community which is why we wont need
them and its a good way to keep the campus gun free.

Sincerely, Aimee Burciaga
