The muscular System

Muscular System
There are three types of muscle: (skeletal, smooth and cardiac)
Research the net and provide summary points outlining characteristics and features for

each

Skeletal muscle

Smooth muscle

Cardiac muscle

Muscle Origin and Insertion

Define the following terms-page 139 textbook

Muscles of the human body

Major muscles involved in movement

(Learn the following muscles and their action. You do not need to remember origins and insertions

Muscle Relationship
Provide summary notes on each of the following terms: (pg 143
textbook)
Agonist

Antagonist

Stabiliser

Principle of reciprocal inhibition- states that while the agonist muscle is

contracting, a message is send at the same time to the opposing muscle
group to relax. This allows for smooth and efficient movement to occur.
Without this process both muscles would be contracting at the same
time and the weaker of the two could possibly tear.

Task: View the following sporting photos and

identify for each, the type of muscle

contraction occurring and provide a
justification for your decision. Also identify the
muscle/muscles groups involved in each
movement.
