Spelling Words
Rule: The two syllable words in
this unit all have one consonant
between two vowels. Children
learn to try dividing before the
consonant creating a first syllable
that is open with the Vowel
Mans name (e.g. raven). If that
doesnt make a real word, they
try dividing after the vowel,
leaving the first syllable closed
with the short vowel sound (e.g.
camel).

Writing- Students will continue to write

narratives in which they recount a wellelaborated event or short sequence of events.
Their narratives will include descriptive details,
transition words, and a sense of closure.
Reading- Students are increasing their reading
stamina each week. Students will be learning
more about how illustrations/text images work
to support the text.
Math- Students will explore place value by
recording two and three digit numbers in
different ways- base ten blocks, standard form,
and word form.
Science- Students will experiment with liquids
to discover their properties.
