Forty cases of tumourous fever treated with TCM method of removing blood
heat and dissipating blood stasis, by Jia Yantao et al.
In this article the authors apply Dr. Ye Tianshis classical method of clearing blood-heat and removing blood stasis to treat pathogenic heat invading the ying and blood levels. Fifty-two cases
of febrile disease accompanied by malignant tumour were selected for the study. The fever was
of more than 15 days in duration and there was no evidence of infection. They were divided into
a treatment group of 40 which received Chinese herbs and a control of 12 which received Western medicine (Indomethacin, 25g, three times daily). The following herbs were given daily as a
decoction for 10 days: Shui Niu Jiao (Bubali Cornu) 40g, Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex) 10g, Xuan
Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) 30g, Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) 30g, Shan Zhu Yu (Corni
Fructus) 15g, Shan Ci Gu (Cremastrae Pseudobulbus) 15g and Chong Lou (Paridis Rhizoma) 15g.
The therapeutic effects were evaluated seven days after treatment had nished. The results were
classied as excellent (normalisation of temperature with no relapse over seven days), effective
(drop in fever by 0.5 degrees which is maintained over seven days) and ineffective. In the treatment
group two cases achieved excellent, 33 effective and ve ineffective, giving a total effectiveness
of 87.5%, compared to a total effectiveness of only 50% in the control. (9/06)
