Tool Mastery #2 - Prezi
Viewable Sample of Tool:

Summary of Usage: Prezi is an online presentation creator that steps outside of

PowerPoint and offers more options for the students to use in class presentations. It
allows the student to direct the order of the presentation by the edit path option. Prezi is
especially useful in this way because it becomes easier to differentiate between the larger
ideas and the supporting details of the subject. The student can edit the path by mapping
out branches off the larger idea. All presentations are saved onto the users account
through Prezis website, so theres no losing work and the student can access and work on
a presentation anywhere that Wi-Fi is available.
Selection Criteria:
No cost to the teacher or students (if public account option is chosen)
Includes several tutorial videos and step-by-step guides to help the user through
creating his or her first Prezi.
Maintains a balance of professional and fun for presentations.

ALCOS Connection:
English Language Arts Grade 9: 2.) Determine a theme or central idea of a text
and analyze in detail its development over the course of the text, including how it

emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective

summary of the text. [RL.9-10.2]
The particular mock presentation I created through Prezi was centered on the
topic, the role of family in To Kill a Mockinbird. This perfectly fits into the
ALCOS objective as students at this grade level are just beginning to discern the
central themes in novels. With a Prezi presentation, it would be easy for the
student to focus on a central theme such as this and provide textual evidence to
support the idea. The option to map out smaller branches from the main idea
would be ideal to include specific details, examples, and quotes.
Blooms Taxonomy: Analyzing the student would be utilizing this tool to
analyze a particular text for reoccurring themes.
ISTE Tech Standards:
2. Research and Information Fluency Students apply digital tools to gather,
evaluate, and use information.
b. Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information
from a variety of sources and media.
Curriculum Connection:
I would utilize this tool in my English class to delve further into texts and
have the students prepare presentations on central themes, ideas, and
concepts. I think this tool would very helpful in general analysis of any
subject matter that the teacher would see fit.
