Experimental
Differentchemicalcompoundswereusedduringthisexperimentofobservationonflamecolor.
ThechemicalsusedtohelpwiththisexperimentwereLithiumChloride,CalciumChloride,
CalciumCarbonate,PotassiumChloride,Borax,andCopperSulfate.But,firstthecontrol
chemicalthatwasusedtohelpignitetheflamesduringthisexperimentwasMethanol.Thefirst
experimentwasjustobservingtheflamecolorthatwouldbeemittedfromthecontrolMethanol,
thenthroughouttherestoftheexperimenttwofulldroppersofMethanolwereaddedintothe
compoundsandthenmixedtogetherwiththechemicals.Themixturewasthenignited.During
eachexperimentvisualobservationswerenoteddownbasedontheflamecolorthatwas
producedbyeverymixture.

Results
Whentheflameswereemitted,somefiresweredifferentcolorsduetothechemicalcompounds
whenignited.WhatwasnoticedwasthatCalciumburnsasanorangeflame,thisiswhyCalcium
ChlorideburnedanorangeflamebutwhenitwasCalciumCarbonateitburnedbluewithflashes
oforange.OthernotestakenshowedthatChlorideusuallyigniteswithblueandorange,asseen
in4,2and1theyallhaveeitherorangeorblue.Copperseemstobeachemicalthatcontainsall
contentsofchemicalsthatigniteorangeblueandgreen(Borax,CalciumChlorideand
Methanol.)Thecompoundnumber7wasnotedtobeanothertypeofBoraxbecausetheyboth
showthemostsimilarity(GreentoOrangeGreenandOrange.)

Conclusions:
Aftertheexperimentwasconductedandobservationsweremade,itwasconcludedthat
chemicalswithsimilarcompoundsemittedsomesimilarflamecolorsandchemicalsthatdidnt
havesimilarcompoundsemitteddifferentflamecolorswhenignited.Forexample,bothCalcium
CarbonateandCalciumChlorideemittedorangeintheirflamessincebothhaveCalciumintheir
compound.Whenthislabwentintoorder,anunknowncompoundwasshowninthetable.
ThroughoutresearchitwasdeterminedthatthiswasactuallyBoraxbecausetheunknown
compoundandBoraxsharethemostdatatogether.AlthoughCopper(11)Sulfateshares
similarities,theunknowncompounddidnotburnwithblue.Theunknowncompoundhastobe
BoraxbecausethecompoundwasburninggreenandorangejustliketheBoraxburnedgreento
orange.Waystoaddonto/changethisexperimentissimple,morecompoundsareignitedsuchas
hydrochloricacid.Theexperimentcouldbefurtheredbychangingthecompoundsusedinthe
experimentalready.Theexperimentcouldbefurtheredifsaltswerecombinedandsaltswere
splittomakemoretypesoffiresandmoretypesofcolorstoobserveandfurtherknowledgeon
burningsalts.
