a prevocational mathematics assignment that
St

College
requires students to plan the logistics around a formal. The original assessment piece asked students to research

By delivering KNOWING
this assessment piece in addition to revising it I am demonstrating my understanding of assessment
strategies, in this instance a summative approach to assess student learning. (Standard 5.1 Demonstrate

Asking students to prepare a pamphlet is a great form of summative assessment

SENIOR FORMAL

Scenario1:

as it provides them with multiple opportunities to demonstrate different

standards of achievement

You are to make a pamphlet for the organization and running of the Senior Formal for 2015.
Of course the first step is to choose a Venue.
BUT there are certain other decisions that need to be made even after a venue has been
chosen.

Starters (finger food)

Non alcoholic drinks
At least a two course dinner
DJ
Table and room decorations
Photographer

BUT you are in luck because most hotels offer a formal package.
YOU HAVE TO:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

Find a venue for the formal.

HINT: Google formal packages Brisbane
If the venue does not offer a package that includes all the above items, then you
will need to organize a separate organization to make this happen.
Include in your Pamphlet the hotel of choice.
Include in your Pamphlet a print the chosen package.
Include in your Pamphlet any extra organizations (see list above).
Include in your Presentation the prices involved
Calculate the total costing for the formal in a table (a sample table is below)

8. Include the table in your Pamphlet.

9. Work out the cost per individual.
10. Include the individual cost in your Pamphlet.

Scenario 2:
Organise transport for the formal
Your 5 friends feel that as you did such a good job organising the formal, that you should be
in charge of organising and calculating the cost of how you will arrive to the formal. Your
task is to make a Pamphlet on the transport of choice which sells this choice as the best
option.
1. Find the best price you can for your selected form of arrival to the formal.
2. Select at least two other to present to your friends and hence show contrasting
prices.
3. Attach to your Pamphlet three choices, including prices.
4. You need to create a table showing the individual cost for each of the three choices.
(A sample table is below)
