Reflective Letter
Dear Robert,
Im quite convinced that this has been my favorite assignment assigned so far this
semester. This assignment easily became my favorite because I was able to connect to my
writing to my personal life for this assignment. This assignment gave me a chance to research
and find the specific components of a diary. After finding what constitutes and classifies a diary,
I was then able to compare it to my own personal diary. Diary entries are meant to keep record of
ones expressed inner most thoughts and feelings. Whether happy, sad, angry, frustrated, or
depressed, a diary is made for one to let go of any and all harbored emotions and thoughts.
I chose to start my diary entries from a sad and helplessness perspective. I wanted the
entries to express true uncensored, unadulterated emotion. I felt this was a way to show how
expressive, vulnerable, and exposing a diary entry can be. This also lets the reader take a second
and look at a particular situation from my point of view. This assignment called for me to write
exactly how I felt, no questions, no rules, and no regulations and I loved it. This assignment
allowed me the opportunity to take my most vulnerable and emotional moments and turn them
into writing.

This particular found genre is about becoming expressive and making everything
personal. So I really began to think about how I can make this writing personal. In my everyday
writing and life, I always capitalize the first letter of every word. Then I realized when typing
these diary entries that I was forcing myself to type in sentence case instead of my usual typing.
Thats when I decide to go the extra mile to make these entries personal. I started capitalizing the
first letter in every word, I inserted quotes that had significant meaning, and I even decided to
include some song lyrics that directly connect to my life. Because of how personal these entries
are supposed to be, my peers didnt have much criticism or improvements for me to make in my
first draft. I wouldnt change this assignment in any way, I enjoyed every step of this assignment.
While being able to express myself, I also got a chance to explore the dynamics and components
of diary entries.
Sincerely,
Christian Best
