From the Senior Minister...

Whether you want to see the ministries your family knows and
loves continue or want to shape the future of our church or Christianity in America and around the worldyour gift to God through
First Christian Church will make a difference.
2016 is just around the corner and our momentum continues to build. Again
this week, we welcomed new members. And, again this week, we welcomed new
guests to worship. Our prayer (wrapped in a huge renovation) is being answered
as people from our community are seeing our campus, hearing about our ministry,
and wondering what God is up to in this congregation.
Our Ministry Team and Committee leaders have submitted some of their ideas
for the coming year. And, as I preached back in August, I am ready to press on
with our ministry to Tyler and the world. I am ready to risk something for God
believing we will find God there in the midst of that risk (step of faith). Last
August, we were one of several hundred venues that hosted the Global Leadership Summit (GLS), an event that draws 260,000 people all around the world
via satellite. I have begun looking into what it would take for us to take GLS
(and all of its spiritual wisdom and leadership lessons) to Central America.

DISCIPLES WOMANS MINISTRIES

NEWSLETTER, JULY, 2014 JUNE, 2015
Following is the final article in a series from Disciples Womens
Ministries.

BLESSING BOXES PROJECT is an over and above offering given

by individuals through DWM and sent to Disciples Mission Fund. Disciples
women use the offering boxes to add a coin whenever they recognize a blessing of their day. At the end of the fiscal year, the coins (converted into a check
or bills) are collected, dedicated and sent with our prayer to DMF.

GENERAL MEETING - JUNE 10, 2015

Adult Sunday School

NO SUNDAY
SCHOOL THIS
SUNDAY.
JOIN US IN
DISCIPLES HALL
FOR OUR
ALL-CHURCH
BRUNCH.

Lunch was provided in Disciples Hall. The ladies enjoyed the entertainment of Sandra Weakley, a talented
and inspirational humorist. She sang songs from the World War II period dressed as Rosie the Riveter. The
DWM members turned in their Blessing Boxes. During a brief meeting, the DWM leaders for 2015-16 were
recognized.

FCC'S DWM Circles

Join us for FCC's two circles open to all women of the church. Deborah Circle meets the first Monday
of each month at 9:30 a.m. in the Seekers classroom. E Circle meets the first Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the
Seekers classroom.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS WITHIN THE CONGREGATION

Disciples Women volunteer to decorate for the Thanksgiving Banquet, help the Worship Ministry prepare
for Advent and Christmas, provide supper for Hospice nurses and caregivers, and honor our ministers with
treats during Minister Appreciation Month. Members help with opportunities for the service whenever they
are called upon. Cards, phone calls visits, casseroles, hugs and kind words and prayers to those in our
community who no longer are able to worship with us are important accomplishments of DWM's members.

BOOK REVIEW...
In our church library is a book that all members should read entitled Bonhoeffer-Pastor, Martyr, Prophet,
Spy. Written by Eric Metaxas in 2011, it was selected as book of the year by Evangelical Christian Publishers
Association and since has sold over one million copies in 19 languages. This book inspired Chris to deliver
several sermons on "grace" two years ago. In 2012 religious leaders of many faiths met with President Obama
and gave him a copy.
This is a biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German pastor, before and during
World War II. Amazon.com calls it a "biography of uncommon power" and lists it
in the top 25 highlighted books of all time. I bought a copy at a used book store and
found that the previous owner had made notes on almost every page. I have since
bought another copy, plus a Kindle

Disciples of Christ Coffee Project
Fall 2015
Give the Gift that Doubles and Triples!
Even if you are not a coffee drinker, there is something organic, fairly traded, and delicious waiting for you!
Disciples Coffee Project also offers organic and fairly traded chocolates and teas. There are hot chocolate drinks, both
traditional and spicy, plus dark and milk chocolate bars. In addition, there are both caffeinated and decaffeinated organic
teas.
Again this year DWM will create attractive baskets of fairly traded products for your gift-giving. You choose which
products to put in the basket and pay only for those items; the gift wrap is complimentary.
But most importantly, by purchasing products from The Disciples Coffee Project, you are helping to support the
hunger relief programs of Week of Compassion and The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Homeland Ministry,
small farmers around the globe, and the many projects of Disciples Womens Ministries here at FCC Tyler.
You can purchase products and order at the Happy Holidays Bazaar, or you may complete the order form and return it
to the church office by November 13th. Deliveries will be made by December 13th. Questions? Please contact Kaye
Kraus at ktkraus@suddenlink.net or 903-581-8308.

Following are the fair trade products that DWM is selling this fall. Proceeds from the sales benefit small farmers
around the world, Disciples Home Ministries, Week of Compassion and our local Disciples Womens Ministries.

TRUNK R TREAT (continued from page 1)

CAN YOU PROVIDE A TRUNK? Were still saying yes! What we need is some decoration in a
theme, a simple game or activity at your trunk, and the first bag of candy to hand out. The church has 4-5
more trunk-in-a-bag kits you can use. Pick up in Disciples Hall. (And NOTE: The prize for best trunk
decoration is a free oil change at Billings Tire!)
CAN YOU RUN A GAME? We want you here, too! More hands make less work, much fun.
ARE YOU A YOUTH? We always have extra trunks that need manning, and candy to refill as the night
goes on. Can you help?
ARE YOU A CHILD, OR A CHILD AT HEART? Well, then, get out a costume and cmon!

For the first three yes answers, please make sure your name is on the sign-up sheet in Disciples Hall or give it directly
to me. Help us create a great example of a church gathering that celebrates both Fall and FAMILY in all forms and of
all ages! Rev. Ginger

Also in 2016, I look forward to our ministry and relationship with Ramey Elementary School to really take root with dozens of people in our congregation. Finally,
how do we measure the value of our Christian Education ministry (Sunday School)?
Happy Anniversary!!
Each class seems to be experiencing numerical and spiritual growth.
This week you will receive a stewardship letter from FCC with a 2016 Pledge
11/1 Harry & Gail
Card. On behalf of the lay and staff leadership of our congregation, I ask you to
Ebbeson
prayerfully consider how you will use your resources to equip FCC to transform
lives in 2016 and beyond.
Please note you may choose to give in a number of ways, including electronic or bank draft. If you have questions
along these lines, please contact our Financial Secretary in the office, Tricia Anderson. If you have other questions, call
the office and we will direct your question to the most appropriate person.
I hope you were able to be with us for our 50th Anniversary Celebration (thats 50 years at the corner of Broadway
and the Loop) on September 20th. That day my message was from Joshua 4the story of the Hebrew people entering
the Promised Land by crossing over the Jordan River with Joshua at the helm. Joshua had them pile up rocks so that
piles of rocks would serve as a reminder to all the people of what God had done for them that day. Since that Sunday,
we have been piling up rocks around FCC in any and all spaces and places where we have individually and collectively experienced God on our campus. God has blessed us beyond measure at FCC. I look forward to our time of
worship, our time of commitment (as we bring forward our pledges in worship), and our time of celebration during
brunch. Gods not done with us. Will you believe with me that our best days are still, somehow, remarkably
ahead of us? Pile up your own rocks this Sunday, for God really is up to something BIG in our midst.
See you this Sunday, October 25th (9:30 a.m. worship; 10:45 brunch). You wont want to miss it.
Grace and Peace, Chris

newly married to Chester Lacy, who is back at FCC after a decade away.
...Jim & Ginny Moser by transfer of membership. We welcome the

choir. They have returned to the Seekers Sunday school class. Please
welcome all of our new members this Sunday by wearing your nametag
and introducing yourself.
We are attracting a new subset of people...young pastors from other
