Bloomingdale Bears Are Ready for Success!


The Gifted Education Program at Bloomingdale Elementary School is ready
to meet the individual
needs of your child. We
are very excited to provide diverse learning experiences for each of our
gifted students. Mr. Lawrence is currently serving
as the Gifted Resource
teacher for grades 1-3 and
Mrs. Lindblad is the Gifted
Resource teacher for
grades 4-5. All gifted students receive instruction
from the William & Mary
Curriculum. The learning
units for 1st grade include
Primarily Plants/Budding
Botanists, Gifts, & Math
EnhancementSolve It!
The 2nd grade units include titles such as

Where is the Beach?


Ancient China, & Math
Enhancement-Solve It!
The 3rd grade students
learn about Analyzing
Natural & Cultural Systems, Ancient Egypt, Archeology, & Math Enhancement-Solve It! The
4th grade students have
been learning about the
American Revolution.
They created a class museum of artifacts, designed
maps of the original thirteen colonies, tea stained
paper to recreate official
documents, performed
choral readings & participated in several creativity
& problem-solving activities. They will also participate in units such as
Hands-On Equations

and Acid, Acid, Everywhere. The 5th grade


students are actively engaged in learning about
the Civil War. They researched key events/
people from this era and
completed projects using
technology. They also
completed a variety of
creative writing pieces
related to the Pre-Civil
War era. In the next
marking period, these students will begin a novel
study and also complete
units on Electricity and
Hands-On Equations.

Bears are Focused on Academic Competitions


Our students are
strongly encouraged to
participate in several
academic competitions
during the school year.
Some of our students
have recently shown an
interest in participating
in the following compe-

titions: Georgia Book


Awards Media Quiz
Bowl, Spelling Bee, Math
Bee, Science Olympiad,
Young Georgia Authors,
Social Studies Fair, Georgia Stock Market Game,
and many more art, poetry, and essay contests.

Bloomingdale Students Qualify for Duke TIP


Congratulations to fourteen of our 4th and 5th
grade students as they
recently qualified for the
highly selective 4th-6th
Grade Talent Search
sponsored by the Duke
University Talent Identification Program. Students
were selected because
they achieved a qualifying
score in the 95th percentile or higher on specified
sections of a nationally

recognized normreferenced standardized


test or on an approved
state test. These students recently received
correspondence concerning this honor. As an active participant in the talent search, these students will gain recognition from Duke University, access online enrichment testing, and be exposed to independent
learning materials and

educational programming.
These students will be honored at a reception in the
