Definitions Photography
Aperture- a space through which light passes in an optical or
photographic instrument, especially the variable opening by
which light enters a camera
Motion- the action or process of moving or being moved
Depth of Field- the distance between the nearest and the furthest
objects that give an image judged to be in focus in a camera
Shutter Speed- the time for which a shutter is open at a given
setting
Rule of Thirds- The rule of thirds is a concept in video and film
production in which the frame is divided into nine imaginary
sections, as illustrated on the right. This creates reference points,
which act as guides for framing the image
Exposure- the state of being exposed to contact with something
Composition- a work of music, literature, or art
Focal Length- the distance between the center of a lens or curved
mirror and its focus. The equivalent distance in a compound lens
or telescope
SLR- A digital single-lens reflex camera (also called a
digital SLR or DSLR) is a digital camera combining the optics and
the mechanisms of a single-lens reflex camera with a digital
imaging sensor, as opposed to photographic film.
Auto Focus- a device that focuses a camera or other piece of
equipment automatically. Automatic focusing

Back Lighting- A black light, also referred to as a UV-A light,

Wood's light, or simply ultraviolet light, is a lamp that emits long
wave (UV-A) ultraviolet light and not much visible light.
Balance- a condition in which different elements are equal or in
the correct proportions
Contrast- the state of being strikingly different from something
else, typically something in juxtaposition or close association
F-stop- the measurement of the aperture setting in a camera
lens. The f-stop setting determines how much light is allowed to
enter the lens and pass through to the film (analog) or CCD or
CMOS sensor (digital).
ISO Speed- Film speed is the measure of a photographic
film's sensitivity to light, determined by sensitometry and
measured on various numerical scales, the most recent being the
ISO system. A closely related ISO system is used to measure
the sensitivity of digital imaging systems

Impact of Photography
Photography impacts the world in many different ways. For
example, social media and media has a huge part to do with
photography. Pictures of your food, nature, yourself and other
people go on Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, etc. almost nothing
you do anymore is private. There are always pictures being
posted of you.

I choose this photo because I like how the wall separates them.
Also how Jenna is looking at Mackenzie through the wall. The
lighting in this photo is also nice and the angle is straight on so it
looks nicer than if it were and higher or lower angle.

I choose this photo because it looks like an old abandoned office

building in a basement. The lighting makes it look kind of creepy
looking and scary.
