E-Portfolio Reflection
Through doing this assignment I was able to figure out how to pick out specific
plate boundaries as well as where most of the worlds earthquakes occur. I noticed that a
lot of earthquake activity is in Chile because it is on a convergent plate boundary. I also
noticed the Pacific Ring of Fire on Google Earth while looking for the different
volcanoes for this assignment. I didnt realize just how many volcanoes were actually
there and I found that really interesting.
I think that more people should take an interest in learning more about their
surroundings. Sources like Google Earth are very helpful when attempting to see the
bigger picture of what our Earth has to offer. Its not only important to know what lies at
your own front door, but also what is happening around the world. This class has made
me think twice about traveling to somewhere that has pretty devastating natural disasters.
This is when research is not only recommended but necessary when planning to travel
somewhere distant and foreign.
I am also more aware of the major natural disaster that Utah is susceptible to,
which is an earthquake. Ive learned that my house is relatively safe because it lies on
bedrock. Ive also taken the opportunity to discuss what actions to take with my family
if/when such event occurs. 72-hour kits are very useful to have as well as walking shoes
in your car just in case you are stranded far away from your home. I am very thankful
that I took this class because it really opened my eyes to what our world is really capable
of.
