Note

Rewrites
Note rewrites will be assigned periodically as homework. The purpose of a note rewrite is to condense and
reorganize your notes from class as well as from the reading. They are not meant to restate verbatim everything
that was discussed in class or in the book. I encourage you to approach this activity with an open-mind and a little
creativity. Successful note rewrites should become an excellent study guide for tests and quizzes. Note rewrites
should be no longer than one page in length front and back if necessary, but not required. They may be
handwritten or typed. Information can be presented as outlines, tables, charts, flowcharts, diagrams, etc. Try to
avoid too many paragraphs or complete sentences. Take this as an opportunity to reorganize your thoughts, make
connections between ideas and reassemble the information in a new way. Each note rewrite is worth 5 points and
are generally due on the day of a quiz or test.

Reading and Study Guide for Applications Topics
For each molecule or class of molecules that we study, you should be able to answer these questions in order to
fully understand the importance of substances using three distinct lenses chemical, industrial and historical. This
breakdown is also reflected in the topic list for the study of applications of chemistry. Use these as a guide in your
reading as well as a starting place to study for quizzes and tests. In some cases, not all questions will be relevant.
In other cases, additional important information may need to be added. Use your judgment as you read, listen in
class and study to decide what details are important. These questions can serve as suggestions for relevant
information to include in the note rewrites.
