Running head: Journal #6 Im Just a Bill

Summary
This video was super cute. I learned that there is an extensive process when making a bill
into a law. Additionally, I learned that many bills do not make it to Capitol Hill to be considered
for law status. In fact, very few make it that far. I also learned that there are many debates
among congressmen regarding bills. Congress needs to report on a bill favorably for it to
progress to the next step in becoming a law. If the bill is not reported upon favorably, then it
fizzles out and is more than likely no longer considered. If the bill is favorably reported on by
Congress, then it goes to the House of Representatives to be considered. If the House of
Representative votes yes on the bill, then it goes to the Senate. The process with the Senate is
the same as the process with Congress. The Senate debates over the bill and decides whether
they want to pass it or not. Once they pass the bill, then it goes to the president. The president
then has to sign the bill. However, there are many bills awaiting the presidents signature.
Additionally, the president has to agree to sign it. He can veto the bill by turning it down and
refraining from signing it if he wishes. If the president vetoes the bill, then it goes back to
Congress and gets voted on again. However, by this time it is highly unlikely the bill will
become a law. If the President signs the bill, then it becomes a law.
